About us
We are a dynamic non-profit community dedicated to fostering authentic connections and creating space to ignite conversations. We recognise that our careers are not ours alone; they are shaped by the societies we live in and the cultures we work in, influenced by the narratives we absorb and the interactions we engage in. These factors affect our access to opportunities and shape our self-perception and interactions with others, but by bringing people and conversations together, we help to rewrite narratives that are limiting and create more opportunities for everyone to excel in our professional journeys.

In this week’s UpliftUs Connect Call, we tackled an important topic: Mastering the Art of Saying No. In today’s fast-paced world, knowing how to say “no” is critical for avoiding burnout and maintaining balance. But what strategies can help us set boundaries and say no effectively—without the guilt? Why Saying No Matters: Saying no allows you to prioritise what’s most important, protect your energy, and keep a healthy workload. It’s about making intentional choices that align with your values and long-term goals. Key Strategies from Our Ambassadors: 😀 Start Positively: Show appreciation before declining. For example, "Thank you for thinking of me, but I can’t commit right now." 👓 Be Clear and Firm: Set boundaries with confidence. "I’m currently at capacity and unable to take this on." 😍 Offer Alternatives: When possible, suggest other solutions. "I can’t do this now, but I’d be happy to help next week." 🤹♀️ Be Honest About Limits: Transparency fosters understanding. "I’d love to help, but my current workload won’t allow me to give this the attention it deserves." 👯 Delegate When You Can: Delegating not only eases your load but also empowers others. It’s a win-win for both team growth and workload management. Overcoming Challenges: 😥 Fear of Disappointment: Saying no is an act of self-respect. Setting boundaries shows others that you value your time and well-being. 🌍 Cultural Sensitivity: Tailor your approach to cultural norms. In some contexts, a softer or more nuanced “no” may be needed. Mastering the art of saying no is about safeguarding your time and energy, making mindful decisions, and building stronger relationships. It’s a key to maintaining sustainable success—both personally and professionally. Thank you for a great discussion Emma Ibbetson, Yael Shahar, Kim Stokes Maria Giron, Yesim Gözen, Amy Mercer, T Alsaraf Olivia Evelyn Bond 💜 #Leadership #careers #wellbeing #SayingNo #UpliftUs #mentoring
