To celebrate yesterday’s National Manufacturing Day, our T Level Engineering students visited University of Sunderland to take part in sustainable design workshops. As one of our founding partners, our Sixth Form students regularly take part in University of Sunderland's workshops, which are aimed at giving young people experience of university and the world of work. Following a successful year of student recruitment we have now have over 460 students studying with us. 🤩 23 of which have just enrolled onto our Engineering T Level. Throughout the next two years, these students will study engineering theory and complete various work placements. Yesterday, these students attended EMCON Engineering & Manufacturing Show to learn more about the different opportunities available to them in the future and to connect with potential work placement providers. To assist with their efforts in securing work placements, we’re inviting new industry partners to contact us regarding working with our T Level students. Had a lovely two days with the Baker Dearing Educational Trust! Yesterday evening I joined the Baker Dearing and UTC teams at their annual dinner followed by their summer conference today. I was lucky enough to be the keynote speaker where I shared my experience of UTC education at UTC South Durham. Sharing my education journey from struggling in mainstream education to excelling at UTC. Gaining hands on experiences through employer engagements and being prepared for an easy transition into my apprenticeship. Then sharing my journey in my apprenticeship at Willmott Dixon from doing my interview at 16 to now coming towards the end of my apprenticeship. Now ready to move onto the management trainee program and my experience along the way. It was a lovely day, being able to share my journey! Also hearing about all the exciting things and projects happening within Baker Dearing Educational Trust and UTCs. I am beyond happy to have received the award for Higher Apprentice of the Year tonight at the North East Apprenticeship Awards held at Newcastle United Football Club 😆 I can’t thank my mentors enough over the years for supporting me to reach this milestone. I would never have gotten here if I didn’t begin studying GCSE Engineering back in 2018 at UTC South Durham where it all began! I had no idea what Engineering was and now 6 years down the line i am still studying, currently doing a Higher Apprenticeship - a HNC in Advanced Manufacturing at South West Durham Training where I have been for the last 4 years. I am exicted for what’s to come, here’s to Women in STEM 👩🔬✨ #WomenInSTEM #ApprenticeshipAward #NEApprenticeshipAward2024 #Engineering
