  • As Frederic Gaillard, our French partner at #UXalliance, points out in his post, adding unnecessary complexity or making drastic changes to a well-functioning product can lead to significant consequences—even the CEO stepping down. Let’s remember Dieter Rams’ principles: good design is useful, honest, and as simple as possible. #UX #GoodDesign #UXalliance

How fatal bad design can be! When you promote design, you know how difficult it is to demonstrate how it can impact a company... But for Sonos, bad design has forced the CEO to step down - Why always bring more complexity to a product that already works well? - Why make a radical change and not a gradual one? And why not go backward when it is only software? It sounds like a suicide! We should always remind ourselves of Dieter Rams' laws Good design: - Is innovative - Makes a product useful - Is aesthetic - Makes a product understandable - Is unobtrusive - Is honest - Is long-lasting - Is thorough down to the last detail - Is environmentally friendly - Involves as little design as possible https://lnkd.in/edBD5Tqp

  • As UX experts at #UXalliance, we’re naturally curious about the products, experiences, and systems we encounter every day. Whether it’s a confusing checkout process, unclear signage, or an everyday object that’s just almost perfect, we can’t help but ask ourselves: “What if this were designed differently?” It’s this mindset—always questioning, exploring, and reimagining—that drives us to improve usability and create solutions that truly work for people. In her latest blog post, Maffee, Peng Hui Wan reflects on what she would like to be redesigned based on a personal experience of a gap in design. What about you? Have you come across something lately that made you think, “This could really use a redesign!”? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Share your experiences in the comments. 👇

During a recent hospital visit to see a family member, I observed something that truly made me reflect. The patient, an elderly individual with significantly limited physical capabilities, struggled to use the nurse call system. Despite the system being within reach and connected to the bed by a rope, he found it difficult to grab the device, let alone press the button. Throughout my visits, I often heard his frustrations about feeling ignored by the nursing staff when he needed assistance. It became clear to me that the design of the current nurse call system seems to prioritize the ergonomics of healthy, physically capable users rather than considering the needs of patients who are physically impaired. Intrigued, I conducted a quick online search for "user-friendly" nurse call systems, but I couldn't find any solutions that effectively address the challenges faced by patients like him. This experience highlighted a significant gap in design—one that could greatly enhance the quality of care for vulnerable individuals. Has anyone seen a “good" design for a nurse call system that effectively caters to the needs of physically impaired patients? Please share your thoughts in the comments!

  • Today, we join the global celebration of #WorldUsabilityDay, an important moment to reflect on a shared mission: designing for a more accessible and environmentally conscious world. This year's theme, "Designing for a Better World," resonates deeply with the current state of design and technology. The key to change, says Don Norman, is human behavior. In his book around this theme, he argues that the current problems are not only technical or scientific, but also behavioral and cultural, and that they require a new way of thinking that is meaningful, sustainable, and humanity-centered. At the UXalliance, we stand together with our partners around the world to push the boundaries of what’s possible, delivering design solutions that truly make a difference. #UXalliance #DesignForABetterWorld #WorldUsabilityDay
