Recently our Head of Training, Paul had the exciting opportunity to attend Highways UK - one of the leading events in the industry! The event brought together key companies from across the highways and street works sectors, providing an invaluable platform for networking, learning about the latest innovations, and discussing the future of the industry. During the visit, our Head of Training engaged with industry experts, explored cutting-edge technologies, and discussed how Van Elle Training Centre can continue to meet the evolving needs of the workforce. Following a successful launch of the second Van Elle Leadership Programme, participants attended the first module: Understanding and Leading Teams. The focus of this session was for each of the participants to understand the purpose of their own team and how it contributes to Van Elle being the leading, most trusted provider of total foundation solutions. Having identified where their teams sit within the organisation, the participants then explored how performance is measured – at the business, team and individual level. Each Leadership Programme module includes a Q&A with a member of the Exec. Team which allows participants the opportunity to hear a different perspective on some of the topics covered. This time it was Andy Riggott, Commercial Director, who shared the benefit of his experience and insights with the group. Our CEO, Mark Cutler also made his regular appearance and shared a gift with each participant, which was an unexpected bonus. Following a detailed discussion about what it means to ‘do the dishes’ (a topic that divided the room) Mark Small, from Optima Training, shared some tools and techniques for effectively allocating tasks and setting objectives. The rest of the session was spent talking about a subject that many people find challenging. How to give effective feedback to motivate and develop your team. This topic will be followed up with small group online workshops in January and then a feedback focused Action Learning Set in March. It’s been a busy month with our team working hard to train all our delegates to enter the workforce with new skills just in time for the new year! We held our fifth internal supervisors’ course, allowing individuals at Van Elle the opportunity to grow and take the next step. Optima Training joined us to celebrate the successful delegates of the supervisor programme, as well as kickstarting cohort two.
