We’ve worked with Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide them with a staffed Day Case Surgical Hub. The day case facility is formed by the seamless joining of a mobile operating theatre and a mobile ward. A Vanguard clinical team supports the surgeons and anaesthetists, maximising efficiency and optimising patient experience. Nearly six years ago, Vanguard delivered the first of three mobile theatres to Solihull Hospital. These theatres and their Vanguard clinical teams have helped University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust counter backlogs in elective surgery before, during and after the worst of Covid-19. The North Bristol NHS Trust needed to refurbish the operating theatres in the Brunel building at Southmead Hospital. This project required the closure of twenty-six theatres, two at a time, necessitating meticulous planning by the Trust’s management team. To maintain their elective recovery strategy, it was crucial to construct a facility that would compensate for the lost capacity without compromising the quality of care. Additionally, it was important to enhance the patient experience and ensure that the construction process caused minimal disruption to both patients and staff. Earlier this year, our CEO Chris Blackwell-Frost chaired a roundtable discussion with 12 NHS leaders from across the UK, exploring how surgical hubs—a proven model for streamlining elective care—can be tailored for paediatric services.
