  • 🎄 Demand for plant-based options at events has grown by an incredible 280% in the UK over the past five years, paving the way for a vegan Christmas boom! Recent data from Togather, an event booking platform, shows how the plant-based choices in the food sector have gained significant popularity, with younger generations like Gen Z leading the charge. In addition, Tesco’s Christmas Report predicts 25% of UK households will cater to plant-based preferences this festive season, highlighting a significant shift in consumer behaviour. With festive vegan recipes trending and more event organisers offering vegan menus, this growth shows no signs of slowing. • 📈 Consumer demand for plant-based foods is surging. According to a recent Mintec by Expana report, consumer demand for plant-based foods is bouncing back after a slower year, with 18-37% year-over-year growth in purchases. And according to GFI’s latest analysis, plant-based food sales reached €5.4 billion in Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK in 2023, up 5.5% from 2022. The rising demand for plant-based proteins is driving shifts in the vegan industry, with pea and soy protein prices climbing due to supply challenges and rising production costs. While North American prices remain stable thanks to stock reliance, European markets face significant production cuts, and US prices are impacted by anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese imports. As consumer demand grows alongside inflation and supply constraints, the market is ripe for innovation in alternative protein development, supply chain resilience, and cost-effective production strategies. • Where can you go to spot international vegan innovation and catch up with the brands leading the way in the vegan movement? Plant Based World Expo 🌱 of course! We had a great time there last week, thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect and learn more about the #VeganTrademark! From sharing the benefits of vegan certification and handing out Vegan Trademark certified goodies to spotting and discussing industry trends with brands from all over the world; we’re proud to have been part of this event alongside so many others working towards the same goal of making veganism more accessible to all. We hosted a panel discussion in the Learning Garden, where our Sales and Marketing Manager, Karen Spinner, joined experts Dr Jack Waverley (University of Manchester) and Joe Hill 🍕 (One planet pizza) shared fresh insights on “Vegan vs. Plant-based” and took a look at how brands can communicate meaningfully with both vegan and non-vegan consumers. It was a fantastic session that got people thinking about effective messaging in the industry! We left the expo feeling excited to carry on these conversations with brands and consumers. 🙌 We are already looking forward to seeing you at the next one!
