In recent years, the UK has witnessed a significant surge in mental health-related incidents, placing unprecedented strain on our emergency services. In 2023-24, over 3.79 million individuals were in contact with NHS-funded secondary mental health services, with 92,119 requiring hospital admission as part of their treatment. By December 2023, the number of people in contact with mental health services had reached 1.88 million, with 382,587 new referrals in that month alone. As the demand for effective support during mental health crises continues to rise, so does the demand for our frontline emergency services to deliver the support required.
