🌟 Celebrating LSHTM’s Transformative Impact 🌟 👦🏾 Did you know half of all blind children don’t need to be? Through their pioneering Child Eye Health Project, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)has shown the power of early intervention. 🇹🇿 In Tanzania, their innovative pilot programme trained primary health workers to detect and address childhood eye conditions, connecting hundreds of thousands of children to vital care. The programme was so successful, it’s now being scaled up to the national level, a phenomenal achievement! 🌍 At Vision Catalyst Fund, we’re proud to fund this incredible work. Together with LSHTM, our shared ambition is to replicate this life-changing programme in 100 countries worldwide, protecting children’s sight where it’s most at risk. 💡 Projects like this show what’s possible when expertise, innovation, and funding come together. 🎥 Watch the impact here: https://lnkd.in/eDJv4ahc 🙏 Thank you to LSHTM for your dedication and expertise. Together, we’re creating a brighter, healthier future for millions of children. #VisionCatalystFund #LSHTM #ChildEyeHealth #GlobalHealth #PreventBlindness
About us
The Vision Catalyst Fund (VCF) is a global fund for vision. Good vision unlocks human potential. It improves earning, learning and wellness for individuals, communities and countries. There are 1.1 billion people around the world living with the consequences of sight loss because people do not have access to eye care services. We are a funder for eye health services in lower and middle-income countries. Our funding is deployed where it can be catalytic, taking calculated risks to meet the needs of the vision crisis in new ways. This may be by backing market based solutions or strengthening the systems that improve peoples’ access to eye health services. We fund programmes that have the potential to scale, working across multiple sectors and becoming sustainable in the future.

Thanks to all involved in our session last week at International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) #2030InSight Mexico on the power of collective action in funding, hosted by our Chief Executive, Dr Andrew Cooper. Lots of great ideas were shared on themes, including collaboration, scaling up, and working with governments. We can’t wait to see where we are together in a year! #EyeHealth #VCF #GlobalHealth #Changemaker What did we learn? 📘 Providing access to vision is a major challenge and one that will require many different approaches. There is plenty of room for creativity and new ideas. 📗 Collaboration between governments, NGOs, the private sector and funders will be vital if we are to scale up effectively. 📙 Working with governments requires a coordinated approach - and one that can’t be rushed, no matter how much money is available. 📕 Data is crucial but standalone reports are not likely to be sufficient on their own. Building in evidence collection to major programmes will enable us to learn as we go, and pivot where necessary when scaling up access to vision. A big thank you to the IAPB for their leadership in convening this landmark event. We are grateful to our panelists Michael Allen (USAID) and Abigail Steinberg (Livelihood Impact Fund) for their insights and all the attendees for lending their creativity and innovation to the group sessions. We are optimistic that, as a sector, we will move together into 2030 🤝

Our Chief Executive Andrew Cooper reflects on the launch of the World Health Organization's ambitious #WHOSPECS eyeglasses strategy in Geneva this week.
Grant-making | Funding | Strategic initiatives | Rights and social change | Trustee | Neurodiversity | Anti-racism | LGBTQ+
Reflecting on a couple of days spent at the World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva this week, it was an excellent learning experience. The launch of the #SPECS2030 initiative aims to turbocharge efforts to scale up access to eyeglasses to eveyone who needs them across the globe. I wear glasses for distance vision, which puts me in an exclusive club, as nearly two thirds of people who need such glasses currently don't have access to them. Some of my rellections from the launch of this ambitious strategy are as follows: * How can we integrate eyeglasses into other agendas - for example education and the livelihoods/employment. Collaboration beyond the eye health sector will be key to success. * How can we encourage markets for affordable glasses to flourish, thereby stimulating demand generation in low and middle income settings? * Who can help us with creating effective behaviour change initiaitves, to ensure that people overcome the stigma of wearing glasses? As a member of the Global SPECS Network, the Vision Catalyst Fund looks forward to working with #SPECS2030 and beyond, to bring eyeglasses to everyone who needs them.
