📣 Great to see Chris Stark CBE, Head of Mission Control for Clean Power 2030, highlighting the critical role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in achieving the UK’s 2030 climate targets. 🗨️ During the recent Energy Security and Net Zero Committee session, Chris Stark emphasised that CCS will make a “meaningful” contribution to the 2030 targets, providing clean dispatchable power essential for a reliable, low-carbon energy system. He also stated that technologies like gas with CCS and hydrogen to power offer the flexibility of traditional gas-fired power stations without the emissions. 🔹 CCS is a critical component of any pathway to achieving Clean Power by 2030, as this target depends on deploying significant quantities of low-carbon dispatchable power. 🔹 While renewable energy generation increases, reliable low-carbon dispatchable generation from gas-fired power plants with CCS technology is crucial for times when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining 🏭CCUS is a key enabler of the UK’s clean power ambitions, ensuring energy security, reducing emissions, and supporting the transition to net zero.       Each year #NAW provides a moment to take stock and appreciate the progress made by our 20 apprentices in the last year.   For example, Thomas Li at our Rye House site completed one of the highest qualifications in general engineering. Lola Turner and Ryan Wilkes have secured permanent roles at our Damhead Creek site after completing their courses. These are just a couple of examples of the achievements our apprentices have accomplished.   As we move through the energy transition, the skills our apprentices are acquiring will become increasingly important. Each one is dedicating their time and effort to mastering a craft that will help solve the challenges in the energy transition, whether it's providing reliable flexible power to complement renewables energy or meeting the future power demand of data-driven industries and sectors like transport and heating as they electrify.   Well done to each of our VPI apprentices for their hard work and dedication this year. Thank you for joining us on this journey.

📢 CCSA Response to the Public Accounts Committee Report on CCUS The PAC report raises important considerations for delivering first-of-a-kind projects in the UK. However, the CCSA is concerned and disappointed that the Committee has not fully accounted for expert advice from the IPCC and the Climate Change Committee —both of whom state that CCUS is essential to achieving net zero. The CCSA have provided the Committee with clarifications in response to the conclusions presented throughout their report. These clarifications seek to address vital gaps in evidence upon which the conclusions of the report have been based, and presents factual evidence that has, thus far, failed to be considered by the Committee. 📌 Key Points from the CCSA's Response: 🔹 CCUS has safely captured and stored CO₂ for over 25 years and is already playing a critical role globally. 🔹 The Government’s net zero and Clean Power by 2030 targets cannot be met without CCUS, which is crucial for industrial decarbonisation and energy security. 🔹 The PAC correctly highlights that deployment is behind schedule due to government delays—momentum must be maintained to unlock the UK’s full economic and climate potential. 📝 Read the CCSA’s full response here: https://lnkd.in/eiC9awQ2 🗨️ Read CEO Olivia Powis's statement below 👇 #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero

Today our CEO Jorge Pikunic met with Minister Sarah Jones at a roundtable to discuss the development of hydrogen as an alternative fuel for power and how CCS can enable this. It was a fantastic discussion where Minister Sarah Jones listened to the challenges and proposed solutions from business– a much-welcome engagement with the government. CCS presents a huge opportunity for the UK, attracting billions of private investment and thousands of jobs – and within this parliament. It is a great example of how Net Zero progress and economic growth can walk hand in hand.

Great discussion at the 74th Koningswinter conference this week, which brings together Germany and the UK to discuss and collaborate on the big issues facing us today.   Our CEO Jorge Pikunic spoke on the energy and climate panel and shared his view on how we accelerate progress to net zero in a way that is affordable for families and businesses. His key points were: 1️⃣ A successful energy transition must meet three tests: deliverability, affordability, and security of supply. 2️⃣ We need to continue to accelerate the deployment of renewables but another critical challenge we need to tackle is flexibility. How do we ensure we have reliable power that can be ramped up and down to address the intermittency of renewable energy? 3️⃣ One easy win to meet the three tests is to use, reuse and adapt the infrastructure and assets we already have today - such as our existing power plants #energytransition

📢 CCSA statement on next projects The CCSA has welcomed the UK Government’s funding commitment for the country’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects – HyNet and the East Coast Cluster in Track-1. However, it is of vital importance that momentum is maintained on CCUS projects. If we are to meet the UK's carbon reduction goals and maintain investor confidence, there cannot be a pause between the current projects and those that follow. To achieve the targets set out in the UK’s 5th and 6th Carbon Budgets, 20-30 million tonnes (Mt) of CO₂ must be captured and stored annually by 2030, rising to 50-60 Mt by 2035. The CCSA urges the Government to publish the next stages of project selection for Track-2 as well as Track-1 expansion as soon as possible in order to maintain investor confidence in the UK as a global leader in this technology and enable these projects to progress. 🛠 To fully unlock the potential of CCUS, the Government must enable projects to move forward at pace. The CCSA will continue our engagement with the Government on delivering the whole Cluster Sequencing Programme. #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero

📢 VPI welcomes the government's announcement today to support a handful of carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects from Track 1. This is a crucial step towards making #CCS a reality in the UK and a significant milestone in the energy transition.    However, this is only the beginning. To reach the necessary levels of captured carbon to achieve net zero, we must maintain momentum.    VPI's carbon capture project in Immingham is one of the first proposed emitter projects for the Viking CCS cluster which has Track 2 status. It is technically ready and has appointed its EPC contractor Worley - one of the last stages before construction begins. If selected by the government soon, we could be capturing our carbon emissions by 2029.    Moreover, our project would provide scale, accounting for 17% of the government's carbon capture targets for 2030. It would also positively add to Rt Hon Rachel Reeves growth agenda, creating 1500 jobs during construction and hundreds more from services like consulting and project management.   We look forward to hearing more about Track 2 soon.
