Transitioning from military service to civilian life can be a challenging endeavour. Veteran’s can often struggle to find a sense of purpose and direction in the post-service world. Drawing from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, it's clear that achieving self-actualisation requires a solid foundation.
Before we can reach the pinnacle of self-actualisation, we must first ensure that our basic needs are met. This includes establishing a comprehensive routine that incorporates wellness, proper nutrition, regular exercise, a consistent sleep pattern, positive mental health practices, social connections, ongoing learning and development, and having a happy home. These elements form the building blocks of our psychological and physiological well-being, enabling us to pursue higher aspirations.
At VTRN RESET, we understand the importance of these foundational steps. Our Co-founder, Adam Stirling, is a testament to this journey. After his service, Adam faced the same uncertainties many of us do, and has PTSD. However, through discipline and dedication, he has established a daily routine that prioritises his health and well-being, which enabled him to take back control of his life.
Adam's day begins with morning exercise and an ice bath which not only keeps him physically fit but also boosts his mental clarity. This is followed by a balanced breakfast, ensuring he starts the day with the right nutrition. He dedicates time to mindfulness practices such as meditation and journaling, which help maintain his mental health. Adam also ensures he gets ample rest each night, recognising the importance of a good sleep pattern.
Beyond these, Adam spends real time with his wife and children and incorporates social connections into his routine, regularly engaging with family, friends, and fellow veterans to foster a sense of community and belonging. He also prioritises ongoing learning and development, setting aside time for reading, skill-building, and professional growth. He also surrounds himself with people who inspire him.
By focusing on these essential aspects, Adam created a stable base that allows him to explore his passions and career goals, whilst having a good balance. This commitment inspired the team Gelareh Darvish, Steve Wall MBE and Adam Stirling to create VTRN RESET, a programme designed to empower service leavers and veterans to thrive in society. Adam's routine not only enabled him to find purpose in his career but also helped him build a happy and content family. His yearly goals revolve around personal growth and development, and he consistently achieves them by adhering to the principles that VTRN RESET advocates.
At VTRN RESET, we empower service leavers and veterans to take control of their journey toward self-actualisation. By helping them establish a strong foundation, they can unlock their potential and find lasting purpose after service!
