Stay Vigilant During Cold and Flu Season ⚠️   Over the counter medicine can have some side-effects such as drowsiness which could affect driving. Staying cautious when feeling under the weather is important as risks of dozing off after taking cold or flu medicine can cause dangerous situations on the roads.   A fleet manager had installed our Driver Distraction AI (DDAI) in his fleets. A short while after the system was installed, the driver showed signs of drowsiness whilst being behind the wheel. The technology captured his eyelids drooping and him yawning, automatically alerting his fleet manager. An investigation began and it turned out he had a cold and had taken over the counter medicine to fight the illness. Without paying too much attention to the side effects of the medicine, he started to feel drowsy which had caused near collisions on the road. Over the counter medication may not be considered as having serious side effects but it may still impair driving which can cause dangerous situations. During the flu and cold season, drivers should be vigilant when taking medicine whilst being under the weather to maintain safety on the roads. How much could DVS fines cost your fleet? 🚚 If fleets are not compliant with DVS standards, they face being fined. A fine for entering London without having a DVS kit is £550 per vehicle and the deadline to pay it is 28 days. Since October 2024, 21,532 PCN fines have been issued (as of February 2, 2025) by Transport for London (TFL). We have divided different size fleets and how much on average fines would cost depending on the fleet size, if not DVS compliant and all vehicles were entering London. Tackling Drink & Drug Driving with Smart Fleet Technology 🚘 Recent Department for Transport figures show a 170% rise in drug-driving collisions in under a decade, while drink-driving deaths are at a 14-year high. In November 2024, the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) released a two page guidance document outlining simple but effective routes that can be integrated to prevent incidents of drink and drug driving. The document is available from the members area of its resources portal. Education and prevention go hand in hand. Nearly £7million worth of fines issued so far💷… The DVS changes are here, and TFL aren’t taking any prisoners. Any vehicle over 12 tonnes entering the Greater London area without the necessary permits are being picked up by ANPR cameras and handed a PCN. Vehicles are also being pulled over by enforcement officers to assess kits, ensuring compliancy with fitment requirements.
