Our Level 4 Academy session wrapped up this week, bringing together 18 of our Next Generation staff, associates, management, and senior leaders, for two days of education and collaboration. Over the course of the two days, team members from across our eight UK offices engaged in discussions, team-building exercises, and sessions designed to enhance leadership skills and foster communication across the industry and amongst our own staff. The agenda featured an internal session from our Managing Director, Allan McGill, on driving efficiency and embracing our company-wide ways of working. Nick Hayes, our ESG & Sustainability Director, provided an insightful update on our recent ESG expansion and offerings, while our Marketing Team shared practical strategies for enhancing collaboration between technical teams and our external marketing efforts. A special thank you goes out to our guest speakers, Stephen Lewis from HFD, who highlighted client expectations and the benefits of cross-collaboration, and MJ O'Shaughnessy, Alasdair MacPhee, and Gerard Carson from Will Rudd, for their invaluable insights into the importance of quality in structural design. To learn more about our Academy, reach out to Academy Manager Paul Hargreaves or our Quality & Standardisation Manager Raymond Kelly. #WWAcademy #NextGenerationLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Collaboration

It was great to be able to attend the NHS Golden Jubilee ‘Our People Awards 2024’ last night. Wallace Whittle were proud to sponsor and present the sustainability award and spending time with #TeamJubilee was a delight as always. The Arthroplasty Outcomes team won the award but I must also give a special mention to Ben Macklin and the National Green Theatres Programe who were also deservedly nominated. I was also happy to see the "Special Recognition Award" presented to the Surgical Centre Expansion Team. I have witnessed first hand the diligent work this team has put in over many years, in the pursuit of improving Scotland's waiting times and the fantastic results that have been brought about at NHS Golden Jubilee is a testament to them. A massive congratulations to all who were nominated as well as the award winners!

WWe had a fantastic evening this week at MLA's Retro-Fit Round Table panel discussion, hosted at OVO's Glasgow office. The discussion delved into the role of retrofitting in modernising existing buildings to meet sustainability goals, reduce energy consumption, and extend their lifespan. Key themes included how to measure the success of retrofitting efforts, the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the value of early intervention in the design process to ensure maximum efficiency. Our very own Niamh Hartnett, Principal Mechanical Engineer, represented us on the panel. She shared her expertise on retrofitting from an MEP perspective, exploring the technical challenges and solutions that drive results. One of the key takeaways from the evening was the need for transparency and seamless teamwork across disciplines throughout the design process. In an era where sustainable buildings are more crucial than ever, these conversations are pivotal for shaping change and setting new industry benchmarks. "It was great to hear the viewpoints of the panel and get insightful questions from the audience on retro-fit. The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration and that is something we can all take forward and make time for." Niamh shared. A big thank you to Mariana Novosivschei & Kay Quillan from MLA for hosting and organising such a great evening, and to speakers Anthony Newman, Heather Holbrook, and Andrew Harvey for their valuable insights. Thanks also to OVO Energy for having us! Thomas & Adamson | Arup | #WallaceWhittle #NZC #NetZero #Retrofit #Sustainability #BuildingDesign #Sustainability #MEPEngineering
