Announcing the winners of the 2024 United Kingdom Finance League! We are thrilled to share the success of this year’s UK Finance League competition. Yesterday WHFS brought together the best student investment clubs in the UK to pitch their investment ideas in a highly competitive event. This included teams representing CapitOx, Warwick Hedge Fund Society, Oxford Alpha Fund and the Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CAMSIF). Sector Head Recruitment for WHFS Investment Research teams is NOW OPEN! Applications will be rolling so apply as soon as possible. Deadline: 12th April, 11:59pm. Application Process: Select your sector preferences, attach your most updated CV, and answer a short question: “What do you value more: mentorship or winning?” [Max 150 words]. Our sectors: TMT; Healthcare; Industrials, Energy & Mining; FIG; Consumer & Retail; Real Estate. Two Co-Heads will be selected for each sector. As a sector head, you will be leading a team of four analysts to prepare termly equity pitches, with the winning teams representing WHFS in the UK Finance League. You will have access to our highly experienced judges, your profile will be recommended to our industry-leading sponsors, and you will have exclusive access to our revamped training programme. We are looking for students who are fundamentally interested in investing. We welcome students from all years and all degree backgrounds to apply. We strongly encourage non-economics/finance majors as well. We can teach you the necessary skills but we can't teach you to have a passion for investing. Finally, even if you weren’t part of the WHFS before, this will NOT negatively impact your chances as long as you can prove that you have the mindset and passion for investing and the skills to effectively lead and mentor a team. Last week, 6 teams across our Investment Research division went head-to-head to present stock pitch recommendations in the second Alpha X competition of the year. Our Analysts and Sector Heads pitched to a highly experienced and distinguished panel of 3 portfolio managers. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and in particular to our winners: 1. We are pleased to announce that George Ullstein, CFA, Portfolio Manager in Global Equity Income at AllianceBernstein, an Asset Manager with over $700 bn in AUM, will join us as a panel judge for the ''Alpha X 2 Stock Pitch Competition.'' George joins our other panel judges, Matthew Bullock from Janus Henderson Investors and Vivek Gandhi from Putnam Investments.   Prior to joining AllianceBernstein, George was a portfolio manager at Schroders where he was responsible for alpha generation for its global equity growth and income strategies. Prior to this, he was an equity research analyst at Schroders, Sarasin & Partners, and Putnam Investments. With over 15 years of experience in equity investing, George brings a wealth of expertise to our panel.   We are delighted to have him on our distinguished panel of judges for the ''Alpha X 2 Stock Pitch Competition.''

We are pleased to announce that Vivek Gandhi, Portfolio Manager for the Core International Equity strategy at Putnam Investments, will join us as a panel judge for the ‘Alpha X II Stock Pitch Competition'. Vivek joins our other panel judges, Matthew Bullock from Janus Henderson Investors and George Ullstein from AllianceBernstein. Based in London, Vivek runs the Core International Equity strategy for Putnam Investments, a Boston headquartered investment firm with over US$170 bn in client assets under management currently. Vivek seeks durable, high-quality businesses that offer high returns on capital, higher growth and superior margin resilience. In addition to institutional mandates, he manages Putnam International Durable Equity SMA, an ADR-only concentrated portfolio that focuses on high-quality international stocks, and the Putnam International Equity Fund. He has over two decades of investment experience across geographies and sectors. We are delighted to have him on our distinguished panel of judges for the ‘Alpha X II Stock Pitch Competition’.

We are pleased to announce that Matthew Bullock, EMEA Head of Portfolio Construction and Strategy at Janus Henderson Investors, an Asset Manager with over £250 bn in AUM, will join us as a panel judge for the ''Alpha X 2 Stock Pitch Competition.'' Matthew joins our other panel judges, Vivek Gandhi from Putnam Investments and George Ullstein from AllianceBernstein. In this role, he works to extend institutional and intermediary client engagement models to clients across EMEA and leads the London-based portfolio strategist team. Prior to joining the Janus Henderson Investors in 2022, Matthew held roles as investment director, multi-strategy solution & thematics at Wellington Management, and as director, multi-asset investment strategist at BlackRock. We are delighted to have him on our distinguished panel of judges for the ''Alpha X 2 Stock Pitch Competition.''
