“Craft is so part of the mainstream now that drawing a line between us and them doesn’t necessarily work for customers on a scale.” Our co-founder Greg Wells spoke with Drinks Retailing about SIBA, The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates' latest campaign: https://lnkd.in/e42R4EC6

Could taprooms be the pubs of the future? In our new Horizons 2024 report we explore the idea that taprooms might just be the pubs of tomorrow. As multi-use spaces that combine production and consumption, taprooms are positioned to play a big role in community building – a key focus in UK economic revitalisation. We’re seeing spaces like Brockley Brewery host events as diverse as beer and yoga nights, highlighting how taprooms can serve broader social needs. By partnering with local groups and embracing activities beyond beer, taprooms are evolving from traditional drinking spots to inclusive social spaces. As work patterns shift, taprooms are also rethinking their offerings – coworking areas, daytime food options, and flexible spaces mean they can attract visitors throughout the week, not just at weekends. Breweries like Attic Brew Co. in Birmingham and Left Handed Giant in Bristol have shown that building a strong community presence is essential. Whether someone’s there for a pint or just to connect with others, taprooms are making a strong case for being the community venues of tomorrow. 🌍🍻 #Taprooms #Community #FutureOfPubs #WeAreBeer #Horizons2024 #UK

Our founder Greg Wells shares some thoughts on what it means to be an independent brewer, and where your focus needs to be. Thank you for the feature The Morning Advertiser. 🙏
Does "independence" mean anything in beer? Hell yeah it does. That's why I think SIBA, The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates were right to get that campaign going. There can be great equity in independence. HOWEVER... It must, must, MUST ladder to a drinker benefit beyond flows of revenue and shareholder profits. Otherwise, it won't MEAN ENOUGH to win over drinkers in any great number. So if you're an "indie brewer" what are you investing into that meaning for it to land in culture in a way that win hearts, minds and hard earned wages? Check out my opinion piece in the The Morning Advertiser - published today. Thanks guys. Would love to know your thoughts. We Are Beer #beer #indiebeer #craftbeer #culture

Fantastic to have Luca Lorenzoni, founder at PATH contribute to our newly launched Horizons 24 report. Find out more about why Luca said yes to being involved 👇
This is great news for Beer. When Greg Wells and the team at We Are Beer reached out to me to act as a contributor for their newly launched We Are Beer Industry platform, it took me all of 5 seconds to say yes. Why? The beer industry is on the defensive. For those that run breweries, we’ve battled wild demand swings through the pandemic, macro competitors with big pockets, supply shortages, and significant cost rises. We've defended blow after blow, and it's been a struggle to find the time and resource to do anything else. But the only way to truly change the outlook for beer is to be bold and go back on the attack. We have industry bodies that support us, but I’d argue their remit has always been to protect, not attack (which makes sense when you consider the % of their membership that will be older, no growth breweries). They’ve played a key role lobbying to protect the industry, most notably through the duty changes/raises, which is a tough and important job… But it’s no longer enough. For me, the We Are Beer Industry Platform comes at a perfect time, because it is all about the attack. It’s not about what we know today. It’s about providing access to people, insights & ideas that will enable us to think about what beer can be... with some helpful insights that will give us and investors more confidence to invest the time and resources into them! I’ve dropped a link into the comments where you can find out more about the Industry Platform. Go check it out.
