  • "We've already started to see positive progress in terms of our waiting list size in the first two weeks. Within this timeframe since the unit's been open, we've scoped an additional 336 patients." Kathryn Kelter, Head of Operations for Planned Care at the University Hospitals of North Midlands.   We're thrilled to see the positive impact of University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust mobile endoscopy unit. By delivering diagnostics more timely, the solution eases the pressure on hospital services, helping UHNM meet NHS England's target of eliminating overdue surveillance procedures.    EMS Healthcare’s mobile unit was quickly commissioned and operational within just five weeks, demonstrating the benefits of rapid installation to provide capacity wherever and whenever it's needed most.    The mobile endoscopy solution provided by EMS Healthcare and Medinet features two diagnostic rooms and its own decontamination facility. It is operational seven days a week and aims to facilitate 4,500 appointments, giving patients timely access to essential tests.   Currently, there are over 7.5 million unresolved care pathways affecting an estimated 6.4 million individuals in England, with nearly 4 million pathways contributing to a significant backlog accumulated over the last decade. In an NHS environment, maintaining patient care is crucial, a fully–managed mobile clinical space can provide a valuable alternative to closures, refurbishments and decant of facilities. The temporary infrastructure can rapidly boost capacity, mitigate disruption and maintain patient care standards. • Together, our partners are #MakingADifference by providing essential preventative health education to improve community health and well-being. Launched last month, Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance’s latest mobile unit aims to help people recognise the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer. The roadshow is touring high streets and supermarket car parks across Greater Manchester - encouraging communities to #JoinTheBowelMovement. This important initiative aims to raise awareness of colorectal cancer and promote participation in the faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) programme, a vital tool for early detection. 📍Over the next six months, the van will visit all 10 boroughs in Greater Manchester, targeting areas with a higher density of late-stage diagnoses 📍The project will offer three events per week in high-footfall areas, with specially trained ambassadors on board to engage the public 📍The goal is to help empower communities most at risk by raising awareness and providing educational resources Dr Roger Prudham, Lead Cancer Clinician, Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, commented on the need for the outreach project:  “In some of our boroughs, 50-60% of people have early-stage cancer when we diagnose them, but in some areas, only 35% of people present to us with stage 1 and stage 2 bowel cancer. We think we can do much better than that, but we can’t do better unless you start people talking and get that conversation going.” The initiative follows the success of the #ThisVanCan Prostate Cancer Awareness project, which concluded last year. • Today, we’re proud to spotlight our partners who are #MakingADifference to improve patient outcomes while tackling the complexities of today’s healthcare landscape. We’re also delighted to share that the first of these incredible initiatives has been shortlisted in the HSJ Partnership Awards in the category of Best Elective Care Recovery Initiative! 🎉 📍 University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust: In partnership with Medinet, the trust launched a dual procedure mobile endoscopy unit that delivers over 725 appointments each month, supporting their goal of clearing overdue surveillance cases. 📍 St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: Despite unforeseen building work, the trust maintained uninterrupted renal services thanks to swift action, setting up a temporary unit with eight renal stations in just six weeks. This ensured continuity of life-saving dialysis for their patients. 📍 Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust: In collaboration with Wassenburg Ltd., North Manchester General Hospital’s endoscopy team enhanced capacity with a decontamination unit that reprocesses up to 195 scopes per day, easing waiting times and ensuring essential procedures could continue during refurbishments. These partnerships reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting trusts in reducing waiting lists and ensuring essential services remain accessible to patients across the country. • “What really came across during the panel was the need to think about how studies meet the diverse needs of the population, and that this must be embedded throughout the development of the product. It’s not something that can be done if we’re only thinking about it when the protocol is finalised and we’re three months away from first patient in.” Last month, at the World Vaccine Congress 2024 in Barcelona, EMS Healthcare’s Dr. Claire Sears led a dynamic panel of industry experts and explored how sites, CROs and the wider industry can drive greater equity in vaccine trials. From addressing logistical barriers to ensuring protocols are flexible and inclusive from the start, the discussion emphasised the importance of embedding diversity throughout the trial process. We’d like to extend our gratitude to our incredible panellists for their thought-provoking insight: - Nader Daoud, Associate Director of Clinical Trial Health Equity at Moderna - Prof Saul Faust OBE, Professor of Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases at the University of Southampton - Dr. Talita H., Associate Grant Officer for Global Medical Grants and Partnerships at the Institute of Translational Equitable Medicine, Pfizer - Dr. Edouard Betsem, Medical Director for Infectious Diseases and Vaccines at Parexel International Discover the key takeaways from this inspiring discussion in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/evf4MRCx #MakingADifference #VaccineResearch #DEandI #DiversityAndInclusion

A true example of #MakingADifference to reduce barriers in clinical research, the NHS-Galleri trial delivered a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test directly to local communities. ➡️ Achieved a record-breaking enrolment of 140,000 participants in just 10 months, the fastest in NHS history. ➡️ Included a diverse participant population across ages, socioeconomic groups, and ethnicities. ➡️ Delivered all appointments on board mobile clinics located in some of the most socioeconomically deprived areas across the Cancer Alliances. ➡️ Supported by 150 clinical staff at its peak, recruited from local communities to serve as trusted advocates. Professor Peter Sasieni, Director of the Cancer Research UK Cancer Prevention Trials Unit at Queen Mary University of London said: “NHS-Galleri has set a new standard in the speed of set-up and recruitment to clinical trials. Previous trials of this magnitude would typically have taken five times as long. Accelerating research means that we will find out sooner whether new technology has a role in the control of cancer and, if it does, introducing it within the NHS quickly so that more people can benefit.” The trial has not only supported the field of cancer screening and diagnostics but has also helped to drive progress in inclusivity in clinical trials. "We wanted to reach into all communities, and we've managed to reach people who usually don't take part in clinical trials and those who have difficulty accessing healthcare at all. We managed to enrol them in this trial, and we couldn't have possibly done that without using mobile clinics.” Sir Harpal Kumar, President, GRAIL. The project’s impact has been recognised with a nomination for ‘Community Partnership of the Year’ at tonight’s prestigious SCRIP Awards. A huge well done to the team, and good luck! 🎉 Get in touch to learn more about how EMS Healthcare can accelerate and improve your trial results by removing barriers to access for diverse populations: https://lnkd.in/dwWsfBV The NHS-Galleri trial is a collaboration with NHS England, GRAIL, The Cancer Research UK and King’s College London Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (now Queen Mary University of London). #ClinicalResearch #NHSGalleriTrial #ResearchStudies #ClinicalTrials
