A great new small business moves into Queensgate… FIRSTLOOK… Opening on Thursday to the public in Queensgate is a wonderful homeware boutique shop. I’ve taken the first look in here to see what is going to be sold and all the bits are just wonderful especially for those of you with a brand new house. Introducing Apple Blossom Pink Home & Lifestyle 🌟 From gold lampshades to furry bobble slippers, from cushions to a little bit of clothing, from vases to throws. Definitely a shop you are going to want to come and have a look in to see if there’s anything that you would like to take home. 😊 Good luck for the opening it’s great to see another new shop which is a Peterborough owned independent seller. So go and give her some support. #Peterborough #WeLovePeterborough #Queensgate #NewShop #HomeWares

So the random post a couple of months ago asking for members of the Stanley Family turned into a lovely meet up and discussion about family, famous names, land, the William Proctor Stanley monument and of course Stanley Rec...off Stanley Road and Broadway. If you love history about our city, then read our blog and find out some intriguing information about the newly names Stanley Park. It definitely brings back memories for me as a child and visiting the loos there (shock horror holes in the ground) but I played there too as I grew up as a city centre girl in PE1. "You all must know ‘Stanley Rec’ (Stanley Recreation Ground) especially if you are a 70’s child who has played there on the swings, or before that, if you played or watched cricket. I regularly walk through Stanley Rec on an early morning walk and it occurred to me that a lump of marble/stone was battered near the walkway. People always sitting on it or around it as a meeting point. I had known a lot earlier that the play area had been ‘given’ to the people of Peterborough by a wealthy family who’d worked in the city. but I was curious now that it had been upgraded and wanted to find out more about this man and his family. So I dug a little deeper...."

Well I’ve stood for 40 minutes in the queue as I was at the back. Those lucky people at the front got a voucher and a goodie bag and a glass of alcohol free champagne drink thing. I managed to escape with a cupcake… I haven’t bought anything yet purely because the queue going into the shop goes all the way round; And it means another 40 minutes of waiting to actually pay. If you’re going in there today there is a queueing system in case it’s really busy. They’ve got some lovely things in there, I would describe it very much like an IKEA gift shop - it’s got lots of ideas, lots of little ornaments, craft pieces, spices, kitchen accessories, and smells of lovely new Pinewood which is all over the shop. Definitely worth popping in to see if there’s any Christmas presents you could get. #Peterborough #WeLovePeterborough #Queensgate #NewShop#shop opening #NewBusiness #ChristmasShop #CraftShop

If you're thinking of not going to Peterborough Cathedral's Luxmuralis Starlight event, think again! It doesn't cost a lot to visit this lovely festive event and it's also helping our fabulous history and architecture stay that way. (adults £7.50 / children £5) or buy a family ticket for 5 at just £25. Luxmuralis is a mesmerising light show that takes on the Cathedral in all its grandeur both indoors and outdoors. Beautiful colours, a kaleidoscope of patterns and obviously a festival feel. Make sure you take the kids, they'll love it. History on our doorstep… walking around Fletton I’ve always wondered about Fletton Tower and its reason for being there. You can’t see it from the road, you have to be high up or walking along the cut. It holds quite a lot of history, and one person was L.P.Hartley who was a writer. After seeing Nath’s mural in Bread Street, Woodston I couldn’t resist going to take a look, see the new Peterborough Civic Society’s blue plaque, but also getting one of his books to see what kind of writer he was. Leslie Poles Hartley was his name, originally born out at Whittlesey, however, he and his family moved to Fletton Tower. He started writing at the age of just 11 after being educated at home. I don’t think you can really imagine life in the 1920’s but he travelled a lot, as higher society did back then, to Venice, Italy. Hartley was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for his 1947 novel Eustace and Hilda, which is what I’m going to ready- a bit hefty either way a massive 756 pages… I’ll let you know next year what I think! 🤪😂 Interested in more info? https://lnkd.in/efJFv-y5 #Peterborough #WeLovePeterborough #Author #Writer #LPHartley #BreadStreet #EustaceAndHilda Street Arts Hire Ltd / Peterborough Civic Society

What a fabulous launch of our 2025 Calendar, thank you to the winners for both sending their amazing photographs in and for attending the launch. Photographs by smart phones, DSLR and from a bridge camera, from walking around and just being in the right place at the right time, to taking photographs daily, not one of our winners is a professional photographer, they are amateur and hobbyists. So well done, a huge congratulations to all of you. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We were fed and watered by Sonny (thanks for getting through the queue quickly) at the _thecoffeehive_ in Fletton - with some great tasting cake and frothy cappuccinos. 😉 A thank you to Kev Lawrence for being our guest judge and attending tonight from Peterborough's local radio station: PCRFM - (sorry Kev didn't catch you on camera) Kev was also taken about by the high quality of the photographs entered and of course found it hard choosing the winners out of the top public voted images. Our calendars are now available for sale: > on our website at welovepeterborough.co.uk > in the RB7 Arts and Culture shop (Queensgate) opposite Superdrug https://lnkd.in/gN3BfiTB #peterborough #peterboroughcalendar #christmaspresent #christmasgift #peterboroughUK

Fancy some chilled out creativity after a busy work day…? So, what did you do this evening? I was enticed by my friend Kelly to try an evening of Pumpkin Painting 🎃… she then mentioned it included cake and hot/cold drinks, so I was up for it. 🧁 A unique, quirky and a nice girly night out in a chilled atmosphere at Lynch wood. So off we trundled with our own-bought pumpkins in the boot of the car and on arrival was greeted by the smell of baked cookies. Mmmm Kelly and I put our pumpkins on the table and got a pumpkin spiced latte, a hot chocolate, a slice of carrot & pistacchio traybake and a toffee crunch blondie. Libby was our chief creator/workshop mentor and told us we were free to create as we liked. She supplied all the acrylic paint, pens and glitter as we all (8 of us) sat down with our very different pumpkins to start. In between lashings of paint, hair drying and glitter I had a caramel shortbread (my fave), Kelly had a slice of biscoff cake, then as we were getting full 🤪 even though we’d had no tea…. we shared a raspberry browned and a slice of retro sprinkle cake. All washed down with a ghoulish blue potion. Nice! Kelly’s pumpkin ended up black and orange with a host of ghosts and spiders, mine was a pumpkin fire with spiders and webs. Others created a multicoloured theme, a halloween bats, a cat, A Mexican theme, a day of the dead face, themed, one a face even cute white pumpkin. We all enjoyed some spooky drinks served up by Charlotte with some playful colours and served cake as soon as a sliced was tucked away in our bellies. A lovely stress free evening. Thanks. Libby runs Lstygall Art and will be doing other workshop evening, so watch out for them! #Peterborough #WeLovePeterborough #Artyfarty #PumpkinPainting #Cake #Drinks #GirlyNight #CreativeNight #Chalkboard
