This is me (as taken by my daughter) stepping aboard the ferry to the Netherlands. What’s interesting about this trip is that the carbon emissions for the return journey by ferry are 15kg. Exactly the same weight as my suitcase (I’m not the lightest of packers). Had I had to carry my carbon, it would have meant one extra suitcase. 💼 But if I had chosen the flight option (see my post yesterday: https://lnkd.in/eDdSaYJC then it would have been 290kg. That’s 19 suitcases! 💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼💼 Which would have been a real pain. I like to think in visual terms for decision making. The thought of lugging 19 suitcases of carbon around is sobering, and one worth keeping in mind when weighing up my travel options.

Renewables are the only way to ensure a greener future with stronger energy security for the UK. A new report authored by leading renewable energy expert Dr. David Toke, in collaboration with Possible, highlights why renewable energy is the key to achieving the UK’s climate goals. By getting on with delivering renewable energy and avoiding wasting money on new nuclear and carbon capture, the UK could save £110 billion by 2050, reduce emissions by 1.1 gigatonnes, and accelerate the electrification of heat and transport. Nuclear and gas with CCS are included in the government’s plans, but are costly, slow to deploy, and risky. Renewables, on the other hand, are faster, less expensive, and offer immediate benefits to the economy, the climate, and households across the country. Now is the time for bold action.
