About us
VCMI is an international non-profit empowering companies, governments and non-state actors to realize the full potential of high-integrity voluntary carbon markets (VCMs). VCMI provides guidance on how different actors can make voluntary use of carbon credits to make a meaningful impact on climate action. Here's how: 1.) VCMI's Claims Code of Practice enables companies to make ‘Carbon Integrity’ Claims, recognizing their achievements in going above and beyond science-aligned emissions cuts to accelerate global net zero. 2.) The Access Strategies Program supports host-country governments to establish policies and processes necessary to build and strengthen a cohesive governance of VCMs that underpin their country’s participation in high-integrity voluntary carbon markets.

New Translation 📚 | Our"Best Practices Guide for Developing Voluntary Carbon Market Projects in Yucatán" is out in English! This Guide is a roadmap to creating high-integrity carbon projects that protect #Yucatán's biodiversity and empower local communities. It answers three crucial questions when developing #NbS carbon projects: 🇲🇽 What are the main criteria for ensuring high-integrity NbS projects? 🇲🇽 How can project developers navigate the existing regulations for developing carbon projects in the #VCM in Mexico? 🇲🇽 What are the best practices for distributing benefits and structuring fair contracts to guarantee carbon projects have tangible benefits for local communities? While this Guide presents the particular interests of the Yucatán state, its recommendations can be applied to generate high-integrity projects in other parts of Mexico or elsewhere. https://lnkd.in/e2Gv-Dyd Carolina Inclan Sanggeet Mithra Maria del Rosario Uribe Diosa Charlotte Streck Elisa Augusto Perpignan Melaina Dyck VCMI UNDP Climate #carbonprojects #VoluntaryCarbonMarket

We're delighted to see VCMI standards referenced in a new report from the International Chamber of Commerce 🙌 Launched this week, the report emphasises the urgent need to scale #VCMs as an essential tool for emissions reduction and for channelling financial resources into climate action, particularly in vulnerable regions. Specifically, it calls for: 🔷 Robust governance frameworks that foster trust and economic incentives for companies to engage with VCMs confidently 🔷 Clear rules and guidance for corporate climate targets, ensuring voluntary carbon credits remain credible and impactful tools for achieving net-zero emissions 🔷 International cooperation to harmonize standards across borders, making VCMs accessible and effective on a global scale It notes how standard-setting bodies VCMI and The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) "play a key role in tackling the integrity gap," and highlights the importance of engaging in VCMs as a complement to achieve global net zero emissions and mobilise critical finance to support climate action. 🔗 Read more on https://lnkd.in/e2tAMczz #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction #NetZero #CarbonCredits #VCM #VCMs #CarbonMarket
