At the Financial Times Global Wealth Management Summit 2024, our Head of Investments, William Morris, made the case for using straightforward, low-cost index-tracking funds. He argued that advisers should start with clients’ goals in mind, and work backwards from there – rather than be tempted by complex, exotic bells and whistles. And he criticised the still-widespread use of past performance as justification for investment strategies, despite the well-known regulatory caution against it. We had an insightful evening at our Creating the Future ‘Technology for Good’ event last night, where our clients gathered to hear stimulating discussion on how AI is transforming our lives.  We heard from Priya Lakhani, CEO of Century Tech, on how AI is proving a game-changer for education and from Wired editor-in-chief, Greg Williams  about how AI is shaping the future of medicine and Danil Mikhailov from data.org on how AI is supporting areas such as health, climate and financial inclusion. Farm and business owners are faced with IHT problems not seen for generations, while business owners will need to reconsider the best way to extract funds from their companies. As expected, unspent pension pots will soon fall into the IHT net, which could affect wealth transfer strategies.
