TGIF! I’ve spent years self-diagnosing ADHD, bipolar, autism, dyslexia—even questioning if I had dementia. This week, I finally got tested—and it’s official: I have combined ADHD and autism. 🧠✨ I scored 8/10 for ADHD! The testing journey has made me reflect on childhood and career experiences and how neurodivergence was misunderstood, especially growing up in the ’70s. Back then, behaviours we now recognise as ADHD or autism were dismissed as ‘lazy’ or ‘not normal.’ One key insight? Managing ADHD is closely linked to gut health. What we eat, how we move, and avoiding ultra-processed foods, sugars, alcohol and toxins all play a role. It’s all about gut health—to brain health and overall wellness. Did you know? Approx 80% of serotonin and approx 60% of dopamine, the 😆 "feel-good" chemicals, are produced in the gut. No wonder food choices impact mental clarity, focus and mood! After 14 months alcohol-free, I’ve also decided against medication, for now, opting instead for lifestyle adjustments. And here’s a surprising discovery: ☕️ Coffee actually relaxes me! While caffeine isn’t ideal for everyone, it helps calm my ADHD mind—even late at night. I’ve noticed how certain foods trigger brain fog, while fermented foods, movement, and proper sleep keep me balanced. Even a short morning walk in daylight helps reset my focus for the day ahead. 🌳 Now, as a 60-something with an inner age still in my 40s, I’m navigating the highs, the lows, the early-morning darkness… and the people around me (a test in itself!). Sharing this to encourage awareness and understanding. Does any of this resonate with you? I'd love to hear your story. Let’s keep the conversation going. 💬✨ #Neurodivergent #ADHD #Autism #GutHealth #BrainHealth #MentalHealthMatters #ADHDAwareness #TrustYourGut #GutHealth #GutToMind #GutBrainAxis
