Yesterday, in celebration of International Men’s Day, our Gender Balance, Mental Wellbeing, Unity, and Working Parents and Carers networks hosted a “facts and snacks” session for colleagues at our Crown Place office where they discussed topics around men’s social experiences, mental health and parenting. This session was followed by a panel event for colleagues in person and virtually with our Gender Balance and Mental Wellbeing networks, where discussions focused on how the expectations of men have changed over time and generations. “Building on the success of International Men’s Day events over the last three years, the Gender Balance Network explored how expectations for men have changed over time and generations, starting meaningful conversations around mental health, changing societal expectations, and allyship. These discussions brought together perspectives from across the business, supporting our broader goals of equity and inclusion. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate men’s contributions and promote positive conversations about men and their role in society.” Elizabeth Martine, Gender Balance Network Chair #CloseBrothers #InternationalMensDay #GenderBalance #MentalWellbeing #Unity #WorkingParentsandCarers

"There is £1.8 trillion in dormant assets in the UK. We are in a savings and lack of investment culture." The first panel of the day covered retail bonds and was moderated by Ruari Ewing, Senior Director at ICMA - International Capital Market Association. Ruari was joined by: ✳️ Stacey Parsons, Head of Fixed Income, PrimaryBid ✳️ Michael A. Smith, CFA, Debt Capital Markets, Winterflood Securities ✳️ James Solomon, Director Corporate Bond Syndicate, RBC Panellists explored the current situation for the participation of retail investors in the primary markets, before looking at the benefits of greater retail participation. While conditions are far better than they were just over a decade ago, there is still room for improvement in order to include more retail investors during normal book building activity than there currently are, to help unlock the UK's dormant savings effectively. Here, wealth managers could play an important role, managing and reducing friction. 📢 "There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen" - Lenin In the second keynote speech of the day, Tom Roberts, Partner – Market Innovations Group, A&O Shearman covered, and showcased, the AI-driven legal innovation that is live today, what the future holds, and how AI could unlock 20 to 50% efficiency gains that could optimise the workplace as we know it. #fintech #ai #ailegal #capitalmarkets #icma
