We expect our teams to operate safely and deliver safety solutions for road users – and it’s generally at the top of the agenda for most organisations. Despite this, there is still an acceptance within highways that accidents happen and are somewhat unavoidable. Contrast this to adjacent transportation industries such as aviation and rail, where any accident that occurs is considered a serious breach, with changes made almost immediately. What can our industry learn from theirs? This is just one of the five areas we’ve explored in our latest Road Safety report 👇 https://ow.ly/8cZj50UFWIh #RoadSafety #MakeVisionZeroAReality #HighwaysCulture

📍 M6, J 21a - 26, NEAR Programme As part of the National Highways' SMP Alliance National Emergency Area Retrofit (NEAR) programme, WJ Group has has helped install 22 new refuge bays between junctions 21a and 26 of the M6 using its latest coloured surfacing product, RapidGrip. Combining pigment, aggregate and binder, this solution means that only a one coat application is required, eliminating the need for a sweeper truck and two curing periods. While many of us began winding down for the holidays, colleagues across the group continued to focus on their communities, spreading kindness during what can be a challenging time of year for many. - James Donnelly used his Thinking Community day to support Spirit Aid, helping with festive deliveries of toys and food parcels. - Our Gloucester depot delivered their donations to the local Trussell Trust food bank. - In Scotland, our depot sponsored a festive ice skating trip and hot chocolates for Royston Youth Action! A big thank you to all involved in these projects and across 2024 for making a positive impact In their communities. Check out some photos below 👇 #ThinkingCommunity #Community #OurPeople

A lesson in highways 🏫 On Monday, WJ's central commercial team, visited Chesterton Community Sports College, to spend a full day teaching maths lessons while relating them to tasks we complete in our industry. We’re committed to promoting the industry and starting thoughts of a career path in highways early on to address the skills shortages we're facing. We are proud to announce our collaboration with WJ Group at the Urmston Sports Club, located in the heart of Manchester.     This partnership came at a crucial time when the club faced significant challenges regarding its parking arrangements. With legitimate concerns about safety risks, especially concerning access for emergency vehicles.     This project exemplifies what can be achieved when industry leaders come together to tackle pressing community needs. We believe that collaboration is key to creating safer environments for everyone involved.     You can read the full story below.      #CommunitySupport #TrafficManagement #Collaboration
