Looking back at some of the challenging projects we have worked on and how we made a difference - some involved working on slurry cut-off walls over many years. Using our larger machines over 100 tonnes we excavated through clay and the bentonite slurry to depths in excess of 20 metres and completed well ahead of schedule. The right machine with the right set up and the right team made this happen. Our engineering knowledge and industry experience over 50 years plays a key part in what we offer to our customers. Happy weekend all… #longreach #civilengineering #teamwork
WM Plant Hire - Long reach excavators
Civil Engineering
Long reach specialists - it’s our passion and what we do #family
About us
Dedicated to specialist plant hire, the company operates one of the largest fleet of long reach excavators in the UK to suit a wide range of applications. Such specialist plant and equipment can provide the reach and access to sites beyond the means of conventional excavators. Long reach excavators, 'walking' machines, amphibious excavators and low ground pressure equipment can provide effective access in and around water, on steep slopes and embankments and wetland areas. With the biggest in the UK at up to 32 metre outreach, our plant ranges from 4 to over 110 tonnes for light to heavy duty demands of land and water based operations. Innovation and customer service are the Company's key focus, ensuring that practical solutions can be delivered in difficult to reach environments. The Company has won several awards for its achievements over the past decade for its innovation, sustainability and ability to deliver complex operations, recognised in 2019 with the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) Presidential Award. It is accredited for the CHAS (Construction Health & Safety) Scheme and has ConstructionLine Gold status.

The recent stormy weather has caused some serious wet ground conditions and that reminded us of the challenging projects our low ground pressure (LGP) long reach machines have done: (1) Recovery of a Hawker Hurricane from the Essex Marshes; (2) 'Re-wetting' of one of the largest peatlands #BogLife; (3) Restoration of the SSSI Muxton marsh to name but a few. Check out the range of #longreach LGP machines at www.wmplanthire.com

Site visit yesterday to see the progress on the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 (TEAM2100) coastal defence project at Canvey Island being delivered by Hesselberg-Hydro TMS Maritime for Balfour Beatty plc . The massive CAT 30m long reach excavator doing what it does best - reaching over the existing sea wall to place specialist asphalt. Great work from the team 👌

Another challenging geotechnical job delivered safely. Many thanks to Suttle Projects with help from THE KRAKEN GROUP on this one… (love the music by the way!) 😎
📍 Portman Ravine 👀 You may have seen us on the beach in Bournemouth carrying out some cliff stabilisation works in response to a landslip. 🚚 Our programme of works includes several elements. First, the removal of the slipped material. This is where we have an advantage; a sister-company with a fleet of tipper lorries & a quarry that is in the process of being reinstated! 👏🏻 Suttle Stone Quarries supplied tippers to remove the muck away clearing the site for the next phase of works. This was done overnight to minimise disruption to the promenade as access was difficult. 🌱 Once all excess material had been removed the face has then been hydroseeded to create new vegetation. This vegetation will work to hold the cliff together thus naturally stabilising it. It is covered by a ‘matting’ which will degrade over time, but in the initial stages of planting will protect the seed and give it the best chance at thriving! 🦺 For this project we have used our 14T Komatsu zero tail swing as well as a specialist 25m long reach excavator. 📸 Thanks to Ross Lambert from THE KRAKEN GROUP for the footage ⚙️ WM Plant Hire - Long reach excavators

We are on the road again this week and before we turn over the calendar to October tomorrow (what!?) we had to share our September calendar photo. Abnormal load haulage is now a big consideration with detailed planning and discussions to be had and loads adapted to meet the route constraints... #heavyhaulage #civilengineering #solutions

The use of the Spider excavator alongside the long reach machines really changes the capability of the maximum reach that can be achieved. With a winch added for safety in particular slope applications then up to 50 metres is possible… #longreach #spider #civilengineering

Well the ‘bring your kids to work day’ was a fantastic opportunity for the next generation to see the world of civil engineering and the specialist big bits of kit that help make it happen. Getting a chance to sit in the seat of the 105 tonne long reach machine and see the new coastal defences being constructed will have hopefully inspired some of the children. Just brilliant. #civilengineering #construction #longreach

Using the larger long reach excavators on this rail embankment project - the larger one at 100 tonnes with 30m reach and the 50 tonne machine with 23m reach - delivered the earthworks ahead of schedule and without closing the line. We look at every project and advise the best options for our customers with consideration to stability issues and access even looking at temporary works design. #civilengineering #longreach #rail #geotechnical

The 49 tonne ‘heavy-lift’ CASE long reach excavator has a maximum reach of 23 metres and is excavating for a deep drainage diversion required for HS2. For the deeper sections it is fitted with a 3m pole grab… #civilengineering #tunnelling #longreach

In explaining the capability of our long reach excavators to clients we remembered this one from 2013 when we excavated fractured granite from the harbour at St Helier in Jersey. Using various attachments on the machine including underwater breakers, grabs, ripper teeth and rock buckets linked to real time GPS, our experienced Operator was able to complete the works ahead of schedule. Experience counts on jobs like these together with great teamwork. Good job. #civilengineering #longreach
