Supporting women's movements to change the world.
About us
- 1 in 3 women experience violence, with domestic violence the most common - Globally, women make up just 23% of parliamentarians - Women spend at least twice as much time as men on domestic work, and when all work - paid and unpaid - is considered, women work longer hours than men We are working to change this. Womankind Worldwide is a global women’s rights organisation working in partnership with women’s rights organisations and movements to transform the lives of women and girls. We believe in the power of women to change their own lives. Together with women’s rights organisations and movements, we work towards… • An end to all forms of violence against women and girls • Women’s economic rights and control over resources • Women’s equal influence in decision making and ability to exercise political power. Womankind strengthens and supports women’s rights organisations and movements by providing the tools and resources they need to change the lives of women, in the home, the workplace and the communities they live in. We build successful projects, amplify women’s voices and share what’s working. We also take collective action with women’s movements at international level.

We need to call it! Femicide is a global pandemic 🚫 The surge of gender-based violence online is taking new forms by the day & current laws and frameworks to protect women and girls are not keeping up with this pace: ⚠️ Dating platforms are still fostering a culture of victim blaming. ⚠️ Big Tech platforms' safeguards for women and girls are still not enough. ⚠️ Perpetrators of crimes such as catfishing are getting away. An Op-Ed on the urgency needed now to end tech facilitated violence against women and girls by our Policy & Advocacy Manager Jill Anami https://lnkd.in/dVEfY3y7 #16Days

Today marks the kick off of the global campaign #16Days of Activism against gender-based violence. This year Womankind Worldwide adds a voice on ending tech-facilitated violence against women and girls and its intersection with femicide. Our policy brief sheds light on the rise of weaponised technologies and everyone's role in advocating for a safer internet: ⚠️ The Internet has become a critical battleground for gender-based violence. ⚠️ Tech Facilitated Gender Based Violence is a catalyst of the broader problem of femicide. ⚠️ AI-driven systems continue to perpetuate stereotypes by prioritising content that reflects harmful gender norms. ⚠️ A growing number of cases of femicide are preceded by online stalking, harassment, or threats. While the end of #COP29 draws near on the 22nd of November, women and girls still continue to pay dearly for the climate crisis but as agents of change they're building and leading movements that will create a just and sustainable world. Approaches such as decolonised #climatefinancing give grassroots organisations the autonomy and choice to respond swiftly to emergencies brought on by climate change. This funding however needs to be rapid and flexible. Read more by our climate justice expert Kalie Weninger https://lnkd.in/ddUizh-r

The 15th AWID International Forum -from 2-5 December 2024- could not have come at a better time when the rollback on women’s rights feels so stark. As Co-CEOs of Womankind, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment, witnessing the alarming rise of right-wing governments, the proliferation of ideologies that threaten gender equality, and a disconcerting drawback in women’s rights across various nations. Just weeks after a right-wing government which challenges women’s bodily autonomy and rights has been elected in the US and months after the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue law which even further strips Afghan women of their basic human rights and dignity was introduced. This regression is not isolated; it’s a trend echoing across continents, affecting women and girls in myriad ways. The need for a reimagined funding approach has never been more critical.
