For #NationalApprenticeshipWeek we’re highlighting different colleagues each day and today we’re focusing on our Ashford site. Meet Ebony-Lee Beavis, who’s an Apprentice Engineer, and Michal Gawinski who’s a Business Unit Manager on the Operations Management Level 5 apprenticeship. Ebony-Lee says: “I decided to do an apprenticeship because I want to better myself and improve the skills I had previously gained as a Technical Operator. I’ve found it very positive learning new skills on a variety of new equipment and love how practical the course is. I’m a working mum so when I get home, I do coursework on my functional skills wherever possible.” Michal adds: “While fulfilling duties linked to my daily job role, I try to recognise opportunities to learn more and practise learnings from my apprenticeship. On many occasions, I find myself in meetings or conversations that include the bigger business picture. "What drew me to Premier Foods’ apprenticeship programme was the opportunity to develop myself in a subject that was always interesting for me – people management and business management. Ambition was one of my drivers, which always pushes me to learn and progress. If I can apply my learnings, then the feelings of achievement and success can be amazing.” Our apprenticeship opportunities for 2025/26 will be going live over the next few weeks. NEW: The UK government is urged to promote, prioritise, and invest in sustainable AI to become a global leader in AI frugality and efficiency. The UK is hungry for AI but how will this impact our sustainability goals? A new report from the National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT addresses the increasing risk that artificial intelligence could pose to the environment and recommends a new approach for how governments can approach the issue. Our new report suggests that mandatory reporting on resource consumption, carbon emissions, and e-waste recycling could help us better understand the scale of environmental impacts. It is also important to embed education, best practices, and communication to ensure that all users and developers are properly informed about potential risks.
