WACL is a club for women leaders whose purpose is to accelerate gender equality in communications and marketing.
About us
WACL is an industry networking organisation that brings together the most senior female leaders in marketing and communications. Our members are drawn from brands, media owners, advertising and media agencies, and other industry businesses. Our purpose is to accelerate gender equality in communications and marketing. To deliver this we focus on three things: • Inspiration • Support • Campaigning We provide inspiration and practical support to aspiring female talent via Gather - our annual conference, our quarterly mentoring sessions. We offer training bursaries via our Future Leaders Award to help young women achieve their potential. We come together to inspire and help each other, and regularly hold prestigious speaker dinner events and activities for the enjoyment of our members and their guests, and in support of our purpose. As well as raising money for NABS, the charity that champions the well-being of our industry’s people. Our 2020/21 campaigning focus is on flexible working, leading with our call for organisations to commit to being Flexible First. Flexible working is a primary influencing factor in closing the gender pay gap, ultimately delivering gender equality in our industry and beyond. • Flexible working is a proven win:win for employees and employers alike - 87% of men and women want to work flexibly; flexible working boosts employee productivity, satisfaction and retention - yet 35% of employees do not have access to flexible working and only 15% of jobs are advertised as flexible. • As industry leaders our goal is to affect change: we’re aiming for 100% of jobs to be advertised as flexible and for employers to measure and report the commercial and people impact of two way flexible working roles. You can follow us on Twitter @WACL1 or visit our website; www.wacl.info

On Tuesday, 19 November, WACL-ers and their guests gathered in the beautiful Orchid Room at The Dorchester for the first speaker dinner of Karen Stacey’s presidency. We were treated to an unforgettable evening featuring the incredible Clare Pooley as our guest speaker. Clare captivated the room with her honest, inspiring, and often very funny account of her “Act II” – a journey that took her from being a high-flying advertising executive to a New York Times best-selling author. Clare’s story follows an adrenaline- and alcohol-fuelled “Act I” as one of JWT’s most brilliant and respected account leaders. Many of us remember her as a Board Account Director—brilliant, talented, and an unstoppable force of nature. Her transformative journey began when she gave up alcohol and started blogging about her experiences. This brave decision not only changed her life but also led her to become a celebrated author, sharing her journey of reinvention with the world. WACL Member Sarah Baumann, has done a full write-up of the event over on our website, including key takeaways and Clare's tips of how to make it in publishing. Yesterday was International Men’s Day—an important day to recognise and celebrate the men who are making real, tangible steps toward gender equality. At WACL, we would love more men to lean in and create change, too. Not just because it helps women overcome the barriers to leadership that we still face, but because greater gender equality in our companies and society benefits men too. To mark the occasion, we asked five senior women in advertising, and proud WACL members, to celebrate men they admire as forces for good. These are men pushing for progress in our industry and beyond—actively supporting women and championing gender equality through real, tangible actions. By taking steps aligned with the key Levers of Change, these role models are helping to create a more inclusive, equitable world. And we need more of that Here’s to them. 👏 Xavier Rees - CEO at AMV BBDO Nigel Sharrocks - Chairman of Digital Cinema Media Nick Ratcliffe - Customer Experience Director of Volkswagen Group Rak Patel - Head of Sales, EMEA, Spotify (soon to be Chief Commercial Officer at Channel 4) Malcolm White - ex-Founder and CSO of krow group (now retired) You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eAkjkQzR Big thanks to our PR partners Propeller Group and Creativebrief for making this happen. What marketing lessons can we learn from Trump’s election victory? Lianre Robinson, WACL Campaigning Chair, shares her insights on how leadership language shapes perception and decision-making, and in order to drive change, we need to acknowledge and redefine our perceptions of what leaders should look like and how we expect them to speak. Changing the Language of Leadership is one of the five Levers of Change outlined in our 50% CEO Playbook, which provides key strategies on how to implement theses into the workplace. You can find a link to the Playbook in the comments. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/expYy8Gg Big thanks to our PR partners Propeller Group for making this happen.
