We are thrilled to share the success of the recent Women in Hydrogen Scotland lunch time round table during the Annual Hydrogen Scotland Conference! The event brought together an inspiring group of professionals, all passionate about advancing hydrogen technology and shaping the future of the hydrogen industry. Our discussions ranged from innovative hydrogen solutions to the importance of skills development. A huge thank you to our incredible table chairs and attendees for their valuable insights and engaging conversations. Dr. Kerry-Ann Adamson led the table on Bankability, Rachel Tulloch led a table focused around skills in hydrogen, Hayleigh Barnett chaired the table discussion on supply chain and Alexandra Stein and Ellen von Zitzewitz led the discussion on international collaboration. Finally thank you to Katie van Eeden and the Hydrogen Scotland for supporting our lunch time session and the Women in Hydrogen Scotland group. 🌍💡Keep up to date with our linkedin for future events and community updates! Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting the Women in Hydrogen Scotland Autumn Event at Heriot-Watt University’s The National Robotarium. It was inspiring to hear from Raffaella Ocone about the university’s focus on hydrogen and the partnerships that are accelerating knowledge transfer between academia and industry.   Sarah Finnie, Protium chaired a panel discussion on Hydrogen Offtake, exploring both the challenges and opportunities in Scotland. The audience’s insightful questions sparked some fantastic discussion:   Niamh Carr from The James Hutton Institute discussed their community-scale farm demonstration project ‘HydroGlen’, highlighting the benefits of replication and utilising untapped curtailed energy within the farming and rural communities.   Angela Gardner Pllu from Balfour Beatty plc Beatty, a bold first mover in the construction market, conveyed the challenges end users face when integrating hydrogen into their businesses and the importance of staying abreast of the ever-evolving technology landscape.   Kim McCracken from Protium shared a developer’s perspective on the crucial role of offtaker commitment in project development, emphasizing the time and patience required to nurture these relationships.   Hannah Beveridge from Hydrasun discussed their enabling refuelling and industrial offtaker technology solutions – moving towards repeatable, standardised product solutions, and the importance of skills development to build trust in hydrogen.   Cinthia Mijares from ULEMCo Ltd outlined the challenges in the UK transport market, stressing the need for a planned ecosystem, with infrastructure, and readily available gas to facilitate vehicle rollout – without this, we cannot grow.   The panel session concluded with a unanimous agreement on the critical importance of projects reaching financial investment decision (FID) to build trust and promote learning within the offtake community. Finally, the event closed with the opportunity to network and chat to David Amos at PlusZero Ltd, and hear more about the hydrogen technology they have deployed at the Heriot Watt campus.   About WiH2S Women in Hydrogen Scotland is an inclusive space for professional women working in the Scottish hydrogen economy to connect, share knowledge, and support the Scottish hydrogen industry, along with the personal careers of our network. We hope that our next event will build on the success of the Autumn Event, and allow our community to make new connections, share ideas for the development of our sector, and explore opportunities for collaboration.   Thank you to all those attended and participated in the event. #womeninhydrogenscotland #hydrogenofftake #supplychain

  • DID YOU KNOW? April 19th is the deadline for the submission of applications to the Second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2) for revenue support from the UK Government's Hydrogen Production Business Model (HPBM).   What is the HPBM? The HPBM is a government-funded support mechanism, providing revenue support to hydrogen producers to incentivise the production and utilisation of low-carbon hydrogen. This initiative is intended to facilitate investment in low-carbon hydrogen production projects across the UK in line with the UK Hydrogen Strategy and the Government's target of 10GW low-carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030.   Why is the HPBM required? The cost of production for low-carbon hydrogen is currently higher than that of higher-carbon counterfactual fuels such as natural gas and diesel. The HPBM is designed to subsidise the cost of hydrogen, bridging the gap between hydrogen and traditional fossil fuels, and making decarbonisation with hydrogen more accessible to consumers.   How does the HPBM work? The HPBM provides support to hydrogen producers via a mechanism similar to a "Contract for Difference", in which the government pays the difference between a Strike Price (price required to enable the producer to recover costs) and a reference price (price the producer receives from the consumer). The subsidy floor (or minimum reference price) is the equivalent price for natural gas in the relevant billing period.   Who can apply for the HPBM? The Hydrogen Allocation Rounds are intended for electrolytic hydrogen projects and other non-CCUS-enabled technologies. Projects must be over a certain scale (>5MW hydrogen output) and be able to evidence deliverability within the specified timeframe for the round. For HAR2, projects must be operational between March 2026 and March 2029. HAR3 is expected to launch in 2025, with subsequent annual allocation rounds until 2030.   For more information, follow the links below:   HAR1 successful projects - https://lnkd.in/gXzTAfMN Hydrogen Production Delivery Roadmap (with info on future rounds) - https://lnkd.in/gzHeq5zY HAR2 application guidance - https://lnkd.in/en5RSTcP Cluster Sequencing Process for CCUS-enabled (“blue hydrogen”) projects - https://lnkd.in/dbR9ZeEr #Hydrogen #Didyouknow #WomeninH2Scotland #HydrogenProductionBusinessModel #HydrogenAllocationRounds #HydrogenAllocationRound2
