Our Breaking Barriers film has been shortlisted for the Smiley Charity Film Awards!    Created earlier this year, this film was part of our Breaking Barriers Report which we launched alongside The Sweaty Betty Foundation, Women in Sport and Nuffield Health. Through this film and the wider report, we hoped to create a tangible, positive difference in the lives of disabled teenage girls across the country.  Vote for us and help amplify the voices of disabled teenage girls ➡️ https://bit.ly/41hrwzm #StandForInclusion  Kelly Smith Hayley B. • The UK has the largest female health gap in the G20 and the 12th largest globally—a stark reminder of the inequalities women still face in society today. Sport and activity play a critical role in improving women’s health, yet too many women and girls are being held back by barriers that exist due to gender stereotyping, institutional bias and a global history of treating women as second class citizens. We must work together to ensure that every woman and girl has access to sport, for stronger bodies, healthier minds, and a fairer future. Will you stand with us? By donating to Women in Sport, you can help our charity build a world where no-one is excluded from the joy, fulfilment and lifelong benefits of sport. As a special thank you, we’ll send you a signed Christmas card from one of our amazing ambassadors - a keepsake to bring a little extra joy this festive season! • "Mummy, not every girl wants to be a little princess." We love this clip of then 10-year-old Jesse Jane McParland appearing on Ellen to show little girls everywhere that they can also dream of being strong, fierce and powerful 💥 For the last 40 years, our charity has been challenging the stereotype that women and girls belong at home and only on the sidelines of sport. But today, the health and happiness of our girls hangs in the balance. With misogynistic comments on the rise on social media, and only 50 years after women were BANNED from playing football, we must make sure girls can finally claim their rightful place in sport. And we need your help. With your support, we can fund our work to understand and tackle stereotypes so that no woman or girl is held back from experiencing the joy, fulfilment and lifelong benefits of sport. Donate today, and as a special thank you, we’ll send you a signed Christmas card from one of our amazing ambassadors - a keepsake to bring a little extra joy this festive season! • Boys are part of the solution🧩 Our 'Boys will be boys' research from early 2024 uncovered a powerful truth: boys have a crucial role to play if we want to level the playing field for girls in sport. But from as young as five years old boys are learning that girls don’t belong in sport. They are learning harmful stereotypes from the world around them. But this doesn’t have to be the case. We all have a part to play in what our children learn📣 This is particularly relevant now, as the Government's curriculum review has just ended, and our political leaders sit around a table to decide what the future of school, and school sport, looks like. Girls and boys deserve an environment in which they can thrive equally. Read our research here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eNQJAzk3

  • "To any little girl watching this..."🥰 Wise words from actress Simone Ashley on the importance of representation for young girls, and South Asian girls in particular. Sport is no different. When a girl sees someone like her on the pitch, court or on the track, she gets the message that she belongs. Sport can give girls resilience, courage, self-belief and a sense of belonging, and that is why representation matters. #RepresentationMatters #WomensSports 📹 Glamour UK

This year we have... 🏊♀️ Rolled out free or discounted gym membership to girls across England with Places Leisure 🔍 Conducted our first ever research focused solely on boys and their attitudes towards women and girls in sport 📜 Sat down with Government to discuss anti-misogyny policies, 50-50 leadership and fair funding To say thank you, we're giving out limited edition Christmas cards to anyone who donates to our charity today. What's better: each card will be signed by a Women in Sport ambassador to show how thankful the entire team is for your support 🙏 Donate today to help us build a bright future for women and girls: https://lnkd.in/ep3zRGB2

  • Our recent research in partnership with Vitality and The Well HQ has found that 4 in 10 women say that losing weight is their main motivator for being active. Girls are not born hating their bodies. But from day one, we’re given unrealistic expectations of what a woman ‘should’ be, how she should behave, and what she should look like. These cumulative years of stereotyping, body shaming and judgement leads women to have a negative relationship with sport, seeing it not as something they can enjoy, but as almost half the women surveyed told us – losing weight is their main motivator to being active. . It’s time to change the narrative. Sport gives women and girls resilience, courage, self-belief and a sense of belonging. Women belong in sport. Not because they need to change the way they look, but because they deserve to experience the joy and empowerment it brings. Read more about the study here and our recommendations for government and employers here: https://lnkd.in/ekkvw6gb Vitality The Well HQ

    • 41% of women say losing weight is their main motivator to being active
  • Women’s health is in crisis🚨 Our recent research, led by Vitality and in partnership with The Well HQ, highlights an alarming gender exercise gap and persistent barriers that are preventing women from being active. The study also found... 🤱 83% of women with childcare responsibilities said this prevents them from being active 🧠 70% of women aged 20-29 said mental health issues prevented them from being active 😥 41% of women said losing weight was their main motivator to being active As a result, we have created recommendations for government, employers, the health and sports industries, and for individuals to tackle these issues. They include health checks for women at key life stages, expanded funding for grassroots sport, and better health and wellbeing support at work. If these recommendations were implemented, we could meet the needs of women at different life stages and show that they too deserve to experience the joy, fulfilment and lifelong benefits of sport.
