🙌 Thrilled to have participated in the AIMS-IMPERIAL #Global #Fellows #Programme 2024 at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Ghana—an inspiring platform for innovation and impact. Collaborating on an #accelerator #project addressing urban sustainability and air quality in Accra, we developed green solutions to create healthier, more #sustainable communities. Insights from distinguished judges elevated our vision, and celebrating the launch of Imperial Global Ghana by the British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson was a true highlight. Grateful for the exceptional mentors and brilliant peers who made this journey unforgettable.

Recently I had the incredible opportunity to run a workshop at The Tech Bros Startup Workshops held at the Google offices. This fantastic event brought together women in 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 from Imperial College London with a passion for tech entrepreneurship, and I was thrilled to contribute by leading a session on 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗩𝗣: 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁-𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. In my session, we explored the evolution of front-end development—from the earliest static websites to today’s interactive and dynamic experiences. We covered the basics of 𝗛𝗧𝗠𝗟, 𝗖𝗦𝗦, and 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁, discussed how modern frameworks streamline development and even looked at leveraging 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 like 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘁.𝗻𝗲𝘄 to quickly prototype 𝗠𝗩𝗣𝘀. The session wasn’t without its challenges—my notes decided not to display, so I had to improvise much of it. Plus, 35 minutes wasn’t nearly enough to teach front-end development in any depth (it takes universities months!). While I rushed through the coding portion, the energy and curiosity from the participants were infectious. It was inspiring to see such a hunger for knowledge in the room! One key takeaway from the session was that while tools like 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘁.𝗻𝗲𝘄 are great for speeding up the process, they’re far from foolproof. It served as a reminder that a strong foundation in development is essential to troubleshoot and refine AI-generated code. It was also great to see my colleague Maria Stennett lead her own session, focused on the back-end, creating a well-rounded learning experience for the attendees. A huge thank you to Milette Gillow and Sedinam Simpson, for organizing such a warm, inclusive, and empowering event. I’m already looking forward to future opportunities to connect with and support more women in 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 as they explore the exciting world of tech entrepreneurship! #WomenInSTEM #TechEntrepreneurship #MVPDevelopment #FrontEnd #AI #EmpoweringWomen #TechBrosStartupWorkshops #BoltNew

🌍 Preside 2.0 Recap 🌍 We’re energised by the incredible turnout on Monday, with 167 university society leaders from 130 societies joining us both in person and virtually at Bloomberg’s London HQ, one of Windō’s founding partners. Attendees traveled from 27 cities across the UK, and we were joined online by participants from Belgium, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, the Netherlands, and Russia—creating a truly global exchange of ideas. At Preside 2.0, we unveiled the Young Talent Values Report, featuring insights from 705 survey responses and packed with practical advice for young talent seeking values-aligned employers. Key highlights include: 💡 69% of young talent say they would leave a company if its values don’t align with their own. 💡 62% feel strongly that employers should disclose the graduate salary or salary range upfront on job descriptions, yet only 18% of full-time graduate roles offer this transparency. (Notably, 20% of our attendees shared via live poll that the absence of an upfront salary would prevent them from applying.) 💡 70% are actively seeking internships or full-time graduate roles that involve sustainability, though just a handful of the largest graduate employers currently offer such early career opportunities. As we navigate the future of work, it’s clear that young talent is prioritising companies that genuinely advocate for causes like racial justice, salary transparency, and sustainability. We’re honoured to support their journey in finding workplaces that reflect their commitments to people and the planet. For those passionate about aligning values with career paths, the Young Talent Values Report is here to help make that alignment a reality. 🌱 #Preside2 #YoungTalent #ValuesAlignedEmployers #Windō

⭐️Reflecting on an Incredible Summer Experience! This summer, I had the privilege of participating in Women In STEM @ IC's Hackathon at Imperial College London, and it was truly an eye-opening experience. As a Biology major, some might wonder why I chose to dive into the world of hackathons. But stepping outside my comfort zone allowed me to acquire new skills in problem-solving, teamwork, coding and creative thinking-skills that are invaluable, regardless of your field of study. The collaborative spirit, the challenge of innovating under pressure, and the opportunity to connect with brilliant minds from different disciplines have been nothing short of inspiring. I'm excited to apply what I've learned to my future endeavors in STEM. A big thank you to the organizers and all the incredible participants who made this experience so impactful! 💙 #WomenInSTEM #Hackathon #InterdisciplinarySkills #LifelongLearning

Proud ambassador of EIG - Elena Iliopoulou Giama Cancer Research & Scholarship Foundation 💙 Dreams are often formed in solitude, but hope and true progress flourish when people come together. Thank you for believing in me and my academic pursuits. #CancerResearch #Diagnostics #WomenInSTEM

We are so excited and proud to announce our new EIG Foundation scholarship award to Eleni Chatzilakou, a PhD researcher (Biomedical Engineering & Industrial Biotechnology) at the Faculty of Engineering of Imperial College London, UK. Eleni works on pioneering research initiatives focused on the development of a biosensing device for early diagnosis of skin cancer. As Eleni has already earned a scholarship for her PhD tuition fees and stipend from Imperial College London, EIG Foundation scholarship will cover expenses related to consumables and outreach activities for the next 2 years. Eleni went through a rigorous evaluation process and a series of interviews with members of the EIG Trustees and Scientific committee and was unanimously selected as an EIG Foundation scholar not only for her excellent academic credentials but also for her social service endeavors: she actively contributes to fostering inclusivity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), as an engaged member of the Women's Engineering Society and a committee member at the Women In STEM organization at Imperial College London, leading initiatives to address gender disparities in the field. In her own words, “I am deeply grateful to the Elena Iliopoulou Giama Foundation for awarding me this scholarship, which significantly enhances my PhD journey in the battle against skin cancer. This funding not only alleviates financial burdens but also empowers me to delve deeper into my research. In my case, history has shown that dreams are shaped and goals are reached behind closed doors, in small study rooms. However, hope is created when people or foundations like yours open these doors and provide devoted new scientists with what they need to reach their full potential. I am incredibly thankful for this opportunity. Thank you for believing in me and my academic pursuits.” EIGF Chairman & Founder, Mr. SPYROS GIAMAS added that “it is a great pleasure to support talented young scientists who conduct research on the prevention and cure of all forms of cancer. Eleni is an excellent example of a young person with motivation, determination and devotion to her scientific field, with a clear vision on how she wants to serve the society with her research pursuits. We are proud that we have the chance to support her in her dreams and excited for the results of her research, as well as for the fact that she is our Foundation's ambassador." We welcome Eleni to our EIG Foundation family and we are looking forward to following the development of her valuable research, which will offer hope and contribute to the collective effort to enhance the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones. #cancerresearch #scholarshipopportunities
