"When I started my degree, I learned I would have the opportunity to do an elective placement overseas. I instantly knew this was something I wanted to do. It was far out of my comfort zone, but I knew the experiences, opportunities and knowledge I could gain would benefit me personally and professionally." https://lnkd.in/epas3uYz #midwifery #studentmidwife #midwiferyplacement #worktheworld #worktheworldsrilanka

Mia, a nursing student from the University of Manchester, travelled to Sri Lanka to complete her overseas placement. "I gained an abundance of new skills and knowledge that I didn’t have prior to this experience. I had the opportunity to visit five different clinical areas which would’ve been quite challenging to organise back at home. I spent two weeks in Obstetrics and gynaecology (OB/GYN), two weeks in the Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), one week in the paediatric emergency department (PAEDS ED), one week in paediatric surgery, and my final week in the medical intensive care unit (MICU)." Chloe, a medical student from the University of Central Lancashire travelled to Tanzania to complete her medical placement. "Fundamental differences were evident in terms of how healthcare was provided by clinicians. In the UK we have a very patient-centred approach whereas in Tanzania it was very paternalistic. This took some getting used to, but it was good to reflect as to why they take this approach." https://lnkd.in/e9C4-Rxt #medicalstudent #medicalplacement #worktheworld #worktheworldtanzania
