  • "Someone was there to help me avoid [FGM] and now it’s my time to give back to them." When Everlin was growing up in a small village in Northern Kenya, female genital mutilation (FGM) was seen as a right of passage for the girls in her community. But when a missionary came to her village and told her about the harms of FGM, Everlin stood up against the traditional practice and pressure to get married. "That’s when I decided no, I didn’t want to do it." Today, Everlin is giving back to her community as she works with World Vision Kenya to protect children, including educating girls on harmful practices like FGM. "I needed someone to hold my hand at that point and right now I feel very good that I’m there. I’m the one holding their hand and showing them the way." #WeAreWorldVision #EndFGM

  • Every girl deserves a life free from fear. Free from gender-based violence. Free to live a life full of hope. But more than 230 million girls and women alive today are survivors of the harmful practice of female genital mutilation (FGM). We stand with every girl, and say no more FGM and no more child marriage. Will you stand with us? #EndFGM

  • At the tender age of 13, Abigael made the daring decision to flee her home in order to escape female genital mutilation (FGM) and marriage forced on her by her own father. She ended up at St. Elizabeth Secondary School in Morpus, where she was supported by World Vision through the Kenya Big Dream program. "I found more than just education here," she says, her voice filled with gratitude. "I found love and, for once, I felt safe." Now Abigael dreams of becoming a nurse or a doctor so she can help her community, especially girls and women. "Child marriage and FGM are vices that should be fought by all means," Abigael asserts. "They deprive children of their right to education and childhood." We stand with girls like Abigael, speaking out against FGM and child marriage. Will you join us?

  • “Water made it possible for me to go back to school." When the effects of climate change dried up the local stream, Dunford, 18, had to quit school to find water for his cattle in far off flood plains. Thankfully, in the summer of 2020, a well was dug in his village. "It’s unbelievable how this well has saved us from going back to the plains. It can only be God working through World Vision," he says. In 2021, after 3 long years, Dunford was able to go back to school. “This water point has not only made it possible for me to go back to school but to stay close to my loved ones as well.” #WorldVisionWater
