#StormBert didn't stop the fun at Wrightbus on Saturday, as we got together for our #Christmas Fun Day. We have been enjoying an incredibly successful year, adapting and growing as a company, as we continue to attract major orders. This is due in no small part to the strength of our product offering, quality of our build and efficiency of our product – but most importantly our incredible team, who our CEO Jean-Marc Gales recently extended his thanks to: “We have great team spirit here. This is not the result of one or a group of people, this is the result of a team. All 2,000 of our staff have got us to where we are. Coming in every morning and doing a good job and making this company grow again.” Saturday was a fantastic opportunity to get together with our families and have some fun, meeting Santa, playing some games and giving our families a back stage pass to the factory with a family tour. Wrightbus is the first OEM to offer a re-powering service through NewPower UK, utilising the unique skills of its workforce to swap diesel for electricity. Our master technicians built the original buses and have unrivalled expertise in being able to swap powertrains.   This new offering from Wrightbus will allow forward thinking operators across the UK to speed up their decarbonisation process by eradicating diesel powertrains in older fleets at a substantially lower price than a new bus.   Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales recently shared, “While we are selling new hydrogen and battery-electric buses all over the world there is a huge market of mid-life buses which, once converted, can have an immediate impact on helping to improve air quality in towns and cities up and down the UK. NewPower UK technology offers considerable TCO benefits when converting a diesel bus to battery-electric including: ▶ 41% reduction on maintenance costs ▶ 17% reduction in energy costs ▶ 13% increase in OPEX rebates available It is estimated that 34,000 diesel buses will need to be converted or replaced by 2035. NewPower can cater to this predicted demand with a programme that will retrofit diesel bus fleets at their mid-life point. Wrightbus will utilise Cummins Inc. in our StreetDeck #Ultroliner diesel double-decker for the first time, in our next-generation variant of that model which will be an Ultra-Low Emission Bus accredited by Zemo Partnership   We are thrilled that the first of these buses are to be supplied to Isle of Man operator #BusVannin who have ordered 5 StreetDeck Ultroliners   This latest Cummins engine platform opens the latest-generation StreetDeck Ultroliner to potential mid-life repower to zero-emission - such as switching the diesel engine for a Cummins hydrogen internal combustion engine, or to a battery electric powertrain through our NewPower UK business.   Bus Vannin Director Ian Bates describes this order as “a progressive step forward in a known technology, the internal combustion engine, while continuing to take into account the Isle of Man Government’s Island Plan and commitments to climate change” and a controlled approach allowing the operator “to see how the network will look in the future, enabling an insight into possible hydrogen options alongside electrification.”   Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales highlighted the importance of our  “blended approach of responsible technologies; battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and the cleanest diesel to ensure all our customers can continue to decarbonise as quickly as possible, while still maintaining financially viable operations…. We are extremely proud to introduce our Wrightbus Mental Health First Aiders, who are now in place to offer essential support for the well-being of all our employees. Our goal is to foster a workplace culture where mental health is prioritised and openly supported. In total 14 employees have now successfully completed an independent mental health first aiding course and are now available to everyone across the company to access trained support and early intervention and sign posting for mental health challenges. Just like First Aid can be the first line of help offered to people experiencing a physical health issue, Mental Health First Aid is given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional health is obtained. Wrightbus Mental Health First Aiders will be able to assist with: •     Dealing with crisis situations •     Recognising the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis and substance use disorders •     Signposting here and how to get help •     Self-help strategies A big thank you to our colleagues who have completed the training - your commitment to supporting the well-being of others is invaluable and we know it will help to create a compassionate, supportive and open environment for us all. This initiative reflects our commitment to being a company that truly cares about the well-being of our employees, working to remove stigma and ensure that mental health is recognised, supported and prioritised every step of the way. We were delighted to welcome a group from the Global Innovation Summit, hosted by Queen's University Belfast and GFCC | The Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils, to Wrightbus last week. Under the theme Accelerating Global Sustainability and Economic Inclusion, the Summit was exploring the connections between economic performance, social inclusion, and environmental protection, shedding light on how to balance immediate needs and long-term sustainability goals. At the end of the 5 day summit, this group of leaders from around the globe visited our factory to hear more about our leading work in the decarbonisation of public transport, the growth of the company and our plans for the future as we move towards a more sustainable world.
