About us
Everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become, especially young people that are in some way disadvantaged. At YMCA Leicestershire we are home to 102 young people who may have experienced homelessness, poor mental health, childhood poverty, violence or abuse. The support we offer enables young people to grow their skills, self-esteem and coping mechanisms to move on to live independently. Founded in 1883 and being one of Leicestershire's oldest charities, the organisation also has a 300 seat professional Victorian Theatre providing a range of music, comedy, drama and spoken word events, as well as range of Sports facilities.

🌱 When Dreams Start with Disaster 🌱 Picture this: a patch of land so wild, even weeds are second-guessing their life choices. Now imagine turning 'that' into a thriving community garden. Sound impossible? Not to Nick Bailey, our unstoppable CEO, Paul Brown and our 'Roots to Resilience' Project 💪✨ In our new video 🎥, we take you on-site to take in the massive challenge ahead for our 'Roots to Resilience' project. Spoiler: it’s less “ready to plant” and more “nature’s chaos at its finest.” 😅 But here’s the thing: every great transformation starts somewhere. This land might look like a disaster now, but with your help, we can turn it into a haven for young people to grow, heal, and thrive. 🌿 💚 Join us in making the impossible happen. Watch the video, share it, and support us through the Big Give. Together, we’ll dig deep (literally) and create something extraordinary. 👉 Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3ZpVXSN #RootsToResilience #BigGive #BeforeTheGlowUp #YMCALeicestershire #NickBailey #charity

🌱 When Green Fingers Meet Big Hearts 🌱 What happens when a BBC Gardeners' World presenter and a trailblazing CEO team up? They plant the seeds for something extraordinary. This week, Nick Bailey sat down with our CEO, Paul Brown to dig into our latest initiative: 'Roots to Resilience'. 💚 Through this project, supported by the Big Give, we’re transforming more than just gardens – we’re nurturing mental health, fostering community, and helping young people grow strong, both inside and out. 🌿✨ Watch the video 🎥 as Nick and Paul discuss how a bit of soil, sunlight, and a whole lot of care can create safe spaces, spark belonging, and cultivate resilience. Because here at YMCA Leicestershire, we’re not just growing plants – we’re growing futures. 📢 Let’s make this flourish! Donate, share, and be part of the change: https://lnkd.in/ecqZUAqV #RootsToResilience #BigGive #CommunityGardening #YMCALeicestershire #NickBailey #MentalHealthMatters

A lovely morning!
Thank you so much to St Leonard's Church in Swithland for their warm welcome to their Advent Service last Sunday, led by Reverend Stephen Delaforce. Our CEO Paul Brown had the opportunity to share the impact of our work with young peole who have experienced homelessness. It was lovely to be joined by former trustee Marc Wainright, who has been incredible support to YMCA Leicestershire for many years. St Leonards Church not only donated towards our Christmas match funded Campaign - bit.ly/3ZpVXSN - but kindly sent me on my way laden with food and toiletries for our residents this Christmas!

We love these guys. We are genuinely so appreciative in such a difficult climate as are the young people that helped Marc (the marketing fella) take the boxes to somewhere safe…so that they couldn’t marvel at the wrappping! Thank you so much!!!
🎄 🎁 Wrapping Up for Christmas 2024 - Spreading Holiday Cheer & Kindness. This festive season, we’re proud to share our commitment to giving back to the community through our "Wrapping Up for Christmas" charity campaign! This year, we’re supporting the YMCA Leicestershire and their Shoebox Appeal to bring some much needed joy and festive spirit to young people who might be facing difficult times. Christmas is a wonderful time of the year; however, it can also be a particularly tough time, and we believe that no one should feel alone, especially during the holidays. Together, we've wrapped and filled shoeboxes with essential items and thoughtful gifts that will help bring comfort and warmth. From toiletries to snacks, cosy socks to festive treats, these boxes will be distributed to residents of the Leicestershire YMCA; supporting the charity’s mission of ensuring every young person receives a gift and helping them feel supported and cared for. More than ever, it is so important to foster a sense of community and kindness, and we truly hope our donations will bring a smile to some this Christmas.
