YHEC was delighted to participate in the Yorkshire Post Health and Life Sciences Business Breakfast 2024 last week. The event in Leeds was a gathering of over 100 business leaders from the health and life sciences community and local authorities to explore the landscape of health and care and to consider future strategies. YHEC Associate Director, Nick Hex (pictured on the far left), was part of a panel that discussed collaborative approaches required to drive innovation in the NHS. We have thoroughly enjoyed attending #ISPOREurope this year! Our Director, Professor Matthew Taylor, shares his reflections: "This year was especially busy for YHEC; we presented 45 pieces of research, exploring everything from best-practice methods in modelling to the challenges of incorporating wider benefits like environmental impact. We also gained valuable insights from the community, particularly on the latest developments in AI-based evaluations and the evolving Joint Clinical Assessment process." Thank you to everyone we had the chance to meet and exchange ideas with – your collaboration and conversations are what make events like these truly impactful. If you didn't have chance to meet us at ISPOR, and would like to find out how YHEC can support your health economics needs, it's easy to contact us at: yhec@york.ac.uk

YHEC’s Tom Bromilow has co-authored a new paper: "Cost-effectiveness analysis of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) versus surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with severe aortic stenosis at low risk of surgical mortality in Sweden". The paper, published in the Uppsala Journal of Medical Sciences, adapted a two-stage Markov-based cost-utility model to the Swedish setting. TAVI was found to be a cost-effective option when compared with SAVR for patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis at low risk for surgical mortality treated in the Swedish healthcare setting. Globally, there are an estimated 395 million non-fatal injuries at work every year. Implementing successful leading indicators, which are conditions, events or measures that precede undesirable events and have value in predicting or preventing the event’s arrival, should lead to improvements in safety performance. However, existing studies have struggled to find any significant relationships and there are no known literature reviews on the topic. YHEC's Lavinia Ferrante di Ruffano and Deborah Watkins undertook a rapid review to map the evidence base on the effectiveness of leading indicators for improving safety outcomes in occupational settings. If you're attending the People Sustainability: Global Summit 2024, don't miss out on Lavinia and Deborah's keynote presentation on 05 December where they will present the findings of this review. YHEC's Amy Dymond and Will Green are authors on a recent paper, "Uncertainties in evaluating the health-related quality of life and disease burden of people with rare diseases and their caregivers in NICE HST submissions", published in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases. The review analysed previous NICE Highly Specialised Technology (HST) appraisals to determine commonly used methods to overcome uncertainties relating to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and disease burden for people with rare diseases and their caregivers, as well as identifying areas where further methodological development is required. Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/dWShaN5e. To find out more about YHEC's work in rare diseases, please contact us at: yhec@york.ac.uk. #RareDiseases #QualityOfLife #HSTA #HTA
