Working together for a stronger York.
About us
Championing city centre businesses, working together for a stronger York. The York BID team are a small group of York residents who are passionate about the city and work hard to build partnerships with key stakeholders to make impactful change for people who work, live and visit the city. We work with key partners – including the City of York Council, Visit York, and Eboracum Security to deliver programmes. Major projects include: Rapid Response Cleaning Service. This service is available 7 days a week for levy paying businesses to quickly blast away unsightly mess and graffiti. Street Rangers. The eyes and ears of the city streets – the Rangers deter anti-social behaviour and deal with low-level crime as well as providing a friendly presence, assisting visitors and residents in the city. Winter Lights. The BID implement a stunning winter lights display to transform the city during the darker months. The York Gift Card. This initiative provides more choice than a single brand gift card while locking in support for local businesses by encouraging people to spend money in the city centre. Over 300 businesses in York participate in the scheme.

20 metre Tansy Beetle 🦗 ✅ Fire breathing dragon 🐉 ✅ Giant waddling duck 🦆 ✅ Hidden wooden mice 🐁 ✅ Camel peeking out of a gear 🐫 ✅ Colour & Light 2025 is live! it's been an absolute joy to bring this together along with the team at Double Take Projections. The BID have loved bringing together all 3 Colour & Lights. However, this one has really allowed us to get creative and pack the 10 minute projection full of animals from York's History The projection repeats every 10 minutes between 6pm and 9pm every night, from now until 2nd March, and will transport viewers back in time to pre-Roman times to when all we could see was 2 rivers and a forest of Yew Tree's. York's 2000 year story will then be retold through the flora and fauna that have made York what is today. A huge thank you to York Minster (Chapter of York) Eboracum® City of York Council and of course the whole BID team for bringing this vison to life on the perfect canvas! Also thanks to York Civic Trust York Museums Trust and Bloody Tour of York for the historic facts and stories that shaped the show Eleanor Richardson Rachel McAllister Bean Alice Bentley Andrew Lowson Chris Bush Carl Nickson David Raymond Ian Waite Lisa Power Kate Hildred Joseph Priestley Alexander McCallion FRICS Rosalind Kelly Steven McConnachie

OUR WEEK IN PHOTO'S 📸 🧊 Amazing to be part of the Visit York Ice Trail at the weekend. We sponsored 6 sculptures and we loved how many people were exploring the trail and our magnificent city. 🛍️ Saturday marked the launch of our new retail initiative 'Shop York' with Indie York (York Independent Business Association). We gave away 700 free Indie York tote bags, and were so grateful to Ben Fry for helping us really shout about it! 📻 Thank you to YO1 Radio and Media for helping us spread the word about Shop York. 💡 Chris Bush attended the Quarterly Northern BID's meeting in Bradford and explored the UK City of Culture 2025. 🧼 A steamy shot of some very early morning street cleaning in the Snickleways of York. 🦆 Carl Alsop & Rachel McAllister Bean visited the YO1 Radio Studios for the second time this week to record something very exciting for Colour & Light 2025. Thank you for making us so welcome! ✅ It wasn't long before we started to receive completed Shop York passports! ✍️ On Thursday, we spent the morning completing SCAN and ACT Training. 🔦 And, as we put the final things in place ahead of Colour & Light 2025, we've been at York Minster with our partners Double Take Projections and ACORN LIGHTING SERVICES LIMITED preparing for the big event.
