Luke will be working on Christmas Day in our 999 call centre. "I'll be working a 16:00 - 04:00 shift on Christmas Day. My plans are to eat Christmas dinner with my family at my Grandma’s house from around 1:30pm and then get ready and go to work from there. It's a privilege to play my part in providing vital care during the festive season."

Vicky is a Community First Responder who will spend the beginning of Christmas Day with her family before volunteering her evening to help patients in Selby. "When everyone is full from dinner, I'll be booking on duty to look after any patients in need of medical assistance. Christmas is of course, a time for family, but patients don't stop needing our help just because it is Christmas Day. If I can make a positive difference to even one person, whether that be Christmas Day or any other day, I will always try to! "

This weekend is expected to be one of the busiest times for our 111 phone service. If you have access to the Internet and feel well enough to do so, you can use 111 online at 111.nhs.uk. This may allow you to reach the 111 service more quickly during times of high demand, whilst still helping you to get the most appropriate care for your needs.

We're currently very busy. Please help us to reach those patients who need us most by only calling 999 in an emergency. If you need urgent medical advice, visit 111.nhs.uk. If it’s not urgent, consider alternative services like your GP, local pharmacy or self care.
