Need some last-minute sustainable Secret Santa inspiration? 🎄 On Friday, we had our annual sustainable Secret Santa gift swap (& steal). Here’s how it works: everyone picks a number out of a hat, and that determines the order in which you choose a gift. The higher your number, the more choices you have. When it’s your turn, you can either steal a gift that someone has already opened or open a new one. It's Black Friday. This means you've either just bought your Christmas presents, a pair of shoes you didn't plan on buying, or you're trying to ignore the strategic marketing. This year, people in the UK are set to spend an estimated £3.8 billion during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, with 86 percent of Gen Z shoppers planning to snag a deal with an average spend of £181 each. But here's the kicker: the retail sector is responsible for 25 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, and UK emissions increase by nearly half a million (429,000) tonnes from Black Friday-related deliveries alone. Planning on doing a Secret Santa this year? Instead of encouraging staff to buy random prezzies, why not promote a sustainable Secret Santa? We did our first sustainable Secret Santa last year and it was a huge success. Not only were our staff able to get super-creative with their gifts, people received some excellent presents. Our sustainable Secret Santa had gifts such as handmade office tidies made from scrap wood, seeds to grow a 'money tree', water bottles and second-hand books. So what makes it sustainable? Shopping local, shopping handmade (bonus if you make it yourself), shopping second-hand and experiences (such as buying a voucher for a local coffee shop). COP29 has begun.   But what does this really mean?   The COP29 summit is uniting global leaders in Azerbaijan to advance climate change solutions.
