**EHRC publishes new guidance for employers on supporting disabled workers with hybrid working** The Equality and Human Rights Commission has published additional guidance for employers that is aimed at managers and leaders who are supporting disabled workers who work in a hybrid manner. The guidance provides practical tips, conversation prompts, questions and case study examples and therefore is intended to be an easily accessible piece of practical guidance. In particular, it considers how to identify when a worker or job applicant may need an adjustment, as well as how to identify barriers to effective hybrid working and ascertain the most appropriate adjustments. It also discusses implementation and review of any arrangements agreed, and gives general advice on how an employer can make the working environment more inclusive and accessible for disabled workers. It goes on to set out ways in which employers can have conversations with a worker about their health and potential adjustments, and gives examples of appropriate questions to ask. It also sets out case studies highlighting examples of how an employer might allow a reasonable adjustment to prevent a barrier to hybrid working for disabled workers. #disability #equalityact #reasonableadjustments #guidance #equality #ehrc

A big thank-you to CIPDNI for organising an excellent conference and for the opportunity to discuss the skills challenge NI faces with a large number of employers, recruiters, trainers and educationalists. We are in the early stages of a SKILLS REVOLUTION driven by several sectors that are experiencing significant growth while at the same time all of the following issues exist - ∙The 16- 64 working age population is set to decline year on year out to 2070. ∙Too many individuals in NI are only qualified to level 2 or less. ∙Only 10% of employers provide apprenticeships ∙Not enough employers grow/develop their people. ∙Not enough females are studying STEM subjects. ∙Not enough employers provide opportunities for those with disabilities ∙Too many of the over 50s population left the workforce after Covid. ∙Too many young people immigrate due to perceived lack of opportunity and don't return. ∙Current immigration policies make it difficult to attract skilled overseas employees. We need strong collaboration between employers, government and education to address all of these issues or the opportunities in front of us will be missed !

For too long sickness absence has been “managed” after the employee has been away from work for a period of time. At that stage, while useful to assess if they are accessing effective support, depending on the length of absence, it can much harder for OH to put together a return plan that will last. Work Wellness Practitioners have always advocated that keeping your workforce well starts with education about positive physical and mental health and wellness for all. Our approach involves Employee 121 health checks, individual stress risk assessments, Mental Health First Aid training, allowing our clinicians to discuss good practice alongside HR/Management policies. We believe in a whole organisation approach to managing health at work. Pleased to see that “A proactive approach, underpinned by clear policies and effective management, fosters a supportive environment where employees feel valued and empowered to maintain their physical and emotional wellbeing” recommended in this HR magazine article too.
