While waiting to see if I will make it back home (as the airport is currently shut down 🙄 ), I still feel fully energised and positive thanks to the fantastic workshop I had the honour to manage at Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) for the #PostgraduateCertificateinSustainableBusiness. In the last 4 days, we explored what it takes to make an organisation change to better contribute to sustainable development and my personal highlights have been: 💡 The energy in the room and how it was galvanised by a growing understanding of the possibilities (as well as the challenges) that the #sustainabilitytransition offers 🔝 Reconnecting with fantastic colleagues ALISON THOMPSON, Brishni Mukhopadhyay, CFA, Justin DeKoszmovszky, Dr Kate Simpson, Ken Caplan, Lina K Wiles and Oliver Dudok van Heel who always teach me something new, help me grow and improve and remind me why it is worth fighting for sustainability even against the currently (quite poor) odds 💻 The successful experiment of putting together a panel on AI and sustainability - #AI is the topic of the moment but especially in relation to sustainability there is still much to learn, debate and reflect on, and more voices need to be added to the mix, so it was great to see it come to life after imagining how it might look like! 😍 The opportunity to learn about the many great projects that companies have undertaken to #supportcommunities, improve the #footprint of their #supplychains, lobby for sustainability and adopt more sustainable #businessmodels and #strategies. It is easy to focus on all that needs to be done and all the steps back that are taking place, so it was great to be reminded of the great progress that is actually ongoing A huge thanks to the fantastic team behind this programme (Emma Fromberg, Olivia Horne, Sophia Upton, Lex Sellwood, Benjamin Boddington, Ellen Mumford and Kathy Cheng) and to all the amazing students of Cohort 27, organisational stream! It has been a pleasure to get to know you better and to see how much you have learnt in just 5 months! Good luck with the rest of your academic journey and with your change projects - we need your energy and ideas now more than ever!!

I spent the morning yesterday strolling the majestic grounds of Madingley Hall & Gardens reflecting on a very full circle moment… I had my first speaking engagement for my PhD research at the University of Cambridge in 2021 at the annual Journal of Management Studies conference, and am now capping off my PhD program back again, this time as a guest speaker for the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)'s Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business. An amazing opportunity to educate practitioners on the ever-evolving sustainability measurement and reporting landscape, as well as distribute some of the insights from my academic research to an influential group of industry professionals. I was also fortunate to join Ursula Davis, Sophie Walker and Ellie Standen on a panel discussion talking all things sustainability measurement, reporting and value chains. To top it off I was generously invited to attend the Cambridge Gala Dinner at Sidney Sussex college. A huge thank you to Fiona Charnley and Emma Fromberg for affording me this opportunity, and to the students for being so engaged in the sessions.

Some weeks I am so grateful I get to do my job and all the incredible opportunities it affords me - this is one of those weeks: I gave a talk as part of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)’s post graduate course. I was one of 3 speakers yesterday all with a take on measurement, reporting and value chains. I loved getting to spend the day with the speakers, the organisers and this fantastic, engaged cohort. I also got to experience a Cambridge Gala Dinner at Sidney Sussex college 😮 So many great conversations about sustainability, circular economy, waste, resources, supply chains (or webs), data, just transition, investment, growth, doughnut economics, packaging, waste tracking, critical materials, emotions… Today I watched Miquel Ballester Salvà talk about Fairphone - wow! What an inspiring, thought provoking session and what an example they are setting. I wish all companies could be more Fairphone ❤️ Currently on my way via many delayed trains to speak about Open 3P at the British Plastics Federation. Huge thanks to Emma Fromberg and Ken W. for making this happen for me, thanks to Ursula Davis and Margo Reynolds for insightful talks and Ellie Standen for chairing our panel. And huge thanks to the whole CISL team and the students for being awesome. Feeling energised and excited to see what we can all achieve to address our poly-crises 🫶🏼🙌🏼

🎥 Ever wondered how nature can teach us to transform towards a better and more resilient economy?✨ 🐝 In this short video, you’ll get a sneak peek into a dynamic learning activity from the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business, led by Chris Grantham FRSA and Adam Lusby. 🌳 During this activity we introduce what I call ecological design thinking. 🍂It is all about drawing lessons from living systems to inspire innovative and sustainable approaches to our economic challenges. 🐛To bring this to life, I developed a learning tool, based on multiple years of research. 💡Interested in this work and what this means for business? This tool will feature in the 📆 2-day Systems Thinking Lab 10-11 March 2025. 📆 Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership: Education (CISL) Tom Norton, PhD Link with more information about the course: https://lnkd.in/ebQGJSXN
