🇬🇧🎉 The UK government has pledged nearly £22bn for carbon capture projects in Merseyside and Teesside, aiming to create 4,000 jobs, support 50,000 more, and reduce 8.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually. This investment is set to attract £8bn in private capital and drive the UK towards its climate goals while revitalizing industrial regions. https://lnkd.in/giNTX7rU

During this week’s Carbon Capture Global Summit 2024 in London, Jan Theulen, Director Technologies & Partnerships, gave a keynote speech on our CCUS projects currently in construction and what is needed to realise the full deployment of CCUS for the cement industry. Not only the progress at Brevik CCS, which is more widely known within the CCUS community, but also the progress of our CCU project in Lengfurt, Germany together with Linde, and the storage developments by Heidelberg Materials North America attracted a lot of attention of the participants. Our innovative approach of #evoZero, introducing net-zero carbon captured cement, has inspired many others. And with all major actors along the value-chain being present, mutual expectations for collaboration were the main topic. Which is essential for maturing this young, yet very important decarbonisation effort for our industry.

We were pleased to be invited to contribute to the panel on “Unlocking CCUS Capital Support: Commitment Risks and Opportunities” at the Carbon Capture Global Summit 2024. #UKIB Managing Director Emily Sidhu discussed the challenges and risks associated with financing #CCUS projects, alongside other panellists Dimitrios Koufos, Head of Sustainable Business at EBRD, Megha S., Head of CCUS and Hydrogen at Low Carbon Contracts Company, Cathy Shepherd, Global Head of Clean Energy Transition, Corporate Banking at Citi and Kathrine Høeg Johansen, Program Director CCS at Ørsted. The panel was moderated by Chris Thackeray, Global CCS Lead at Baringa. The discussion explored the benefits of a cluster approach, lessons learnt on policy frameworks and financing innovations. Emily outlined how UKIB is using its products to help de-risk projects and will continue to work with the market to evolve our offering as the needs of projects change over time.
