London South Bank University (LSBU) wins award in recognition for its commitment to bridge healthcare gaps LSBU won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Local Community’ award at the Times Higher Education Awards 2024. The project, run by LSBU and Croydon BME Forum trained barbers who have customers from around South London to provide on-the-spot blood pressure checks along with their regular trim in a bid to tackle undiagnosed health issues through promoting awareness and early prevention. Led by Nicola Thomas, Professor of Kidney Care at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the project focuses on reaching individuals from black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities, who are disproportionately affected by high blood pressure. Factors such as genetic predisposition, lack of awareness, and distrust in traditional healthcare services contribute to these groups being at greater risk. #Health #CroydonWellbeing #PersonalHealthAwareness Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQ9n_Q2r

🏡 Croydon Council has approved a new housing plan which will help build homes and improve communities. The new Housing Supply & New Build Framework (HSNBF) will help the council find ways to build more affordable homes, working with private developers and housing associations. It gives clear guidance on how the council will use its resources and build safe, warm, and dry homes – a key priority in the Mayor’s Business Plan 2022 – 2026. Using the framework, the council will be able to review and assess new developments fairly and openly. A key part of the framework is the council's commitment to being open with residents, which includes involving residents in the council's decision-making process and ensuring everyone has a say in shaping their neighbourhoods and homes. #CroydonResidents #CroydonHomes #ResidentialDevelopments Read more: https://lnkd.in/ea-ny7Jk
