What is the best way to understand an electric vehicles range, and just how good the charging infrastructure is? Jump in one and go for a drive of course, and that’s just what we did 😄 Last week Julie and I teamed up with GREENFLEET and the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government to attend the Evolution Motorshow in Cardiff, driving a 1100mile round trip in our EV in the process, to give a talk about our Pole to Pole EV Expedition. Sharing our knowledge and stories to demonstrate just how capable EV’s are and how they can cope with the harshest of environments on the planet. A fact we can testify to as we have driven our 100% electric Nissan Ariya through them. We then joined a panel session with Kevin Booker Jonathan Jenkins and Paul Bevan of EVA Wales to answer questions from the audience about everything from the EV transition to what more can be done to help the public switch. From there, we joined 30 other EV’s and teams from various companies and went on a 500mile road trip around the spectacular roads and scenery of Wales. The route was full of various checkpoints which showcased some of the amazing community projects and charging hubs that are springing up all over Wales as part of the government’s incredible work after declaring a climate emergency back in 2019. We saw everything from a community ran project that has 40kw of solar and battery storage installed at their school, and also own their own hydro facility. We gave an impromptu talk to the school kids here and answer their questions. Right through to a 36 connector charging hub at the National Library of Wales. We certainly have left Wales very inspired and full of optimism for what they are doing, and are planning to return to visit these and more amazing projects. All of the teams involved in the EV Rally of Cymru echoed just what is happening in Wales. Collaboration, enthusiasm and a passion to do what is right for the planet and every eco-system that depends upon its survival. At checkpoint 4 in Wrexham, our team joined Costelloes at their new charging hub, which is an impressive addition to the Wrexham County Borough Council's electric vehicle infrastructure. Over the course of the day, we welcomed 27 electric cars and vans, with drivers stopping by for a superfast or ultra-rapid charge and an opportunity to connect with our expert teams – from answering questions to raising awareness on the future of electrification. ⚡ The hub is fully equipped with the Rolec UltraCharge 80, three dual 22kW Quantum pedestals, and a Tap & Charge remote contactless payment terminal. ⚡ Offering up to 80kW DC charging capacity with the flexibility to deliver 40kW per outlet. Another standout feature is the 15" LCD screen, which proudly displays all the brands, clear information, and support contact details. ⚡ We’re also extremely excited to see the 'Tap & Charge' remote payment terminal in action, delivering seamless contactless payments for a hassle-free user experience across multiple chargepoints. ⚡ This rollout of chargers is a game-changer for EV drivers in Wrexham County, and what better place to showcase the installation than at this epic event!
