Accelerating the transition to a circular economy

About us

Established in 2017 and officially launched by Dame Ellen MacArthur, the Exeter Centre for Circular Economy (ECCE) is globally recognised for Circular Economy thought leadership, theory and practice. Our aim is to catalyse the transition to a Circular Economy, one which reflects broader value chain opportunities in using the digital and technological revolution to create an economy which is “regenerative, accessible and abundant.” This takes in the theory and practice of creatively changing business models, product, service and system design and the enabling conditions within and outside of organisations. The Centre is a part of the Business School’s Department for Science, Innovation Technology and Enterprise (SITE) which focuses on the innovation process within organisations using an interdisciplinary approach and drawing on insights from complex systems. As a fundamental part of a Russell Group University with world-class credentials, ECCE draws on the wealth of inter-disciplinary scientific, business, economic and social science expertise across the entire University. We are a multi-disciplinary team composed of economists, engineers, designers, sociologists, management academics and practitioners based in three locations, Streatham, Penryn and London. The University of Exeter was designated as a Global Pioneer University by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2017. The Foundation was established in 2010 with the aim of accelerating the transition to the circular economy and supporting decision makers across business, academia, and government.
