The Kyle Walker and Lauryn Goodman saga continues… You may have seen the recent headlines: ‘Kyle Walker and Annie Kilner are enraged by Lauryn Goodman’ and ‘Annie Kilner shares defiant snap after Lauryn Goodman dragged private lives into the public arena’. It is often assumed that family court proceedings will be kept private, but this is not always the case. There has been a movement towards transparency in the family courts in recent years, and in certain circumstances parties will be identified in the court’s judgment. In the recent case of Goodman v Walker the court refused anonymisation on the basis that the parties were celebrities and so much related to this matter had already been sprawled across the front pages as a result of their own actions; anonymising the judgment would have been futile. Had Walker and Goodman opted to go down the route of reaching a definitive conclusion to matters via Family Arbitration, a form of alternative dispute resolution, the findings and final decision of the court would not have been publicised for the world to see and judge.
