🌍 Will COP 29 drive Affordable, Clean and Sustainable Transport forward faster? Now that COP29 has started, the question of how to finance climate action takes center stage. Transport accounts for approximately a quarter of global CO₂ emissions, making it a critical area for climate action and sustainable development. The transition to sustainable transport requires a global effort. At COP29, countries have the opportunity to collaborate on solutions that prioritise cleaner, more efficient modes of transport for everyone, everywhere. This asks of all countries to come together and agree on funding commitments, as well as innovative financing mechanisms to support action in both developed and developing nations. Investments in all modes of transport, be they public or private – and from 2 and 3 wheelers and passenger vehicles to trucks, buses, ships and planes – will be crucial in reducing emissions and improving air quality, on local and global scales. Creating a successful transition means embracing solutions that are both accessible and affordable, along with fostering partnerships to overcome technical and economic barriers. As partners in the Global Sustainable Mobility Partnership, we continuously work to support this. Unveiled at the 4th SESA Project Regional Event in Marrakesh 🌱🔋 On 14 October 2024, N.J.(Nam-Jung) Choi and I were thrilled to present the much-anticipated SESA Toolbox during the SESA Project's 4th Regional Event in Marrakesh! 🎉 This powerful platform offers a wealth of educational materials, tools, and resources for anyone passionate about sustainable energy solutions. Magdalena S., project coordinator of the project, and myself pressed the launch button together. During the presentation, we showcased the toolbox’s key features, which are designed to empower students, communities, businesses, and innovators alike: 🔑 Key Features: ⚡ Practical guides on sustainable energy systems 🌱 ⚡ Real-world solutions tested in living labs 💡 ⚡ Tools for planning and managing energy projects 🛠️ ⚡ Access to funding opportunities and policy support 📑 The SESA Toolbox is a living platform that will continue to grow as new content is added by the SESA partners throughout the project's duration. Big thank you to the Cenex team for a brilliant Cenex Expo 2024. Especially our EXPO events team Olivia Mayes, Lauren Wilcox and Cerys Dutton and to Pulin Singh and Andrew Benfield for a superb Cenex networking zone. I also wanted to thank Lilian Greenwood MP, the Minister for Future Roads, for announcing that Cenex will be leading the Drive to Zero implementation hub for the UK in partnership with Energy Saving Trust and CALSTART. The Hub will provide support and guidance to enable public and private commercial vehicle fleets to decarbonise more quickly. This will help create jobs in the zero emission automotive sector, deliver cleaner air and tackle climate change. We are looking forward to developing the delivery plan over the coming months with Rosalind Marshall and colleagues at Department for Transport and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

This morning at Cenex Expo, Minister Lilian Greenwood MP gave a passionate speech on the opportunities and benefits of cleaner, greener transport. She reiterated the commitment to phase out sale of petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2030 with no non-ZEV sales from 2035. She also announced that Cenex will lead the Drive to Zero medium and heavy duty implementation hub for the UK in partnership with Energy Saving Trust and CALSTART 👏

Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) initially founded in 1862, is the major public transport bus service operator for Cape Town in South Africa. The company operates a fleet of over 1,000 diesel buses on 1,300 routes, with a daily ridership of around 220,000 people. GABS has spent about R3-billion (US$162-million) on their fleet over 24 years with German truck and bus maker MAN. After running multiple tests since 2020 on electric buses, GABS have proven initial operational data to start paving the way towards full fleet electrification by confirming its first bulk order of 120 electric buses from BYD, a top high-tech enterprise in China specializing in IT, automotive, and new energy. BYD is the largest supplier of rechargeable batteries in the globe, with BYD Auto becoming the most innovative independent national auto brand, leading the field of electric vehicles. While GABS had earlier tested MAN's 66-seater Lion Explorer E electric bus specifically developed for the African market, deliveries of the BYD B12 electric buses are scheduled to start late in 2024, with all the buses expected to be operational before December 2025. GABS started in 2017 with the pilot installation of two solar plants of 25kWp each, and in 2020 increasing the solar capacity of 2 000kWp, which resulted in carbon neutral electricity status for two of their facilities.
