Through the work of the #UKAid funded GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian programme, we continue to play a leading role in the Early Warnings for All Initiative. We publish research, deliver partnerships and provide technical support and industry best practice with the aim of everyone in the world being protected by an early warning system.
It was great to meet last week with the Advisory Panel for the Early Warnings for All Initiative where we launched the second annual summary report. Really pleased the report highlights the Mobile Industry Pledge, showing our industry's commitment to this important initiative. The Early Warnings for All Initiative has the crucial aim of ensuring everyone in the world is protected by an early warning system. With 95% of the world’s population covered by a mobile network and 5.6 billion unique mobile subscribers, mobile is a crucial tool to reach people with life-saving information. The report also shares GSMA research on the use of cell broadcast for early warning systems and on how to make risk communications inclusive for all. 🌦️ Why do traditional weather forecasts often fall short in tropical regions? This gap impacts nearly 500 million smallholder farmers worldwide, who need accurate and timely weather data to manage their crops and livelihoods. Our latest AgriTech AI blog series highlights how Ignitia’s innovative approach leverages AI to tackle these challenges. By creating models that outperform global forecasts in tropical areas, Ignitia offers localised insights to farmers in some of the most climate-vulnerable regions. Farmers can access real-time updates on storms and changing conditions, enabling them to make informed decisions on planting, fertilising, and harvesting. Commissioned by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. 👉 Read the blog here: https://ow.ly/zBWr50UbYX9 #i4ag #Ignitia
