Home Kitchen: The Social Impact Restaurant
Non-profit Organizations
A chef who has won a Michelin star in two kitchens and a team of homeless people. We're the diner making a difference.
About us
Home Kitchen aims to transform the perception of homelessness and make a positive impact on the UK hospitality sector. Our mission is to help socially vulnerable people get out of poverty and into work. Our first restaurant is in Primrose Hill, London, and the menu and kitchen are fully managed by Michelin-starred chef, Adam Simmonds. The rest of the team is recruited from the homeless community. We'll pay London Living Wage, provide a travel card, and fund a catering qualification to help kickstart their careers in the industry. So, why are we doing it? On any given night in the UK, 274,000 people are homeless. London suffers most - 180,000 Londoners endure homelessness. There's no easy fix. But one route is through meaningful work. The trouble is most employers, despite huge claims around inclusivity, are unwilling to employ homeless people. We already have our restaurant, but now we need you. By simply booking a table and dining with us, you'll be making a difference. Your support will help us transform lives and provide more opportunities for those in need to find meaningful work. Our Christmas Crowdfunder is live! At Home Kitchen, we ensure fair pay, travel support, and training for our staff—all of whom are from the homeless community. But running a mission-focused restaurant means operating with tight margins. We want to expand our impact and provide even more opportunities for those rebuilding their lives. To do this, we need funding. This is where you come in—your support can make a real difference. Please donate to our crowdfunder here: https://shorturl.at/PRI2E Thank you! 🙏 #DineWithPurpose #EndHomelessness

We've launched our Christmas Fundraising Campaign... We're hopeful to raise donations to support the annual salaries of two of our new recruits. People like... - Lily is a young mum and Iranian refugee who faced persecution back home - she now has leave to remain in the UK with her young son, and her first job is with us in our Front of House team; our customers love her - Mimi is our talented pastry chef who was forced to leave home at a young age and experienced sustained street homelessness - now her pastries get a major thumbs up from our guests We've had glowing reviews at media, we have an average 5 star rating on Google, but the restaurant industry is tough and our people need a little extra support. It's all explained in the below. PLEASE DONATE AT THIS LINK IF YOU CAN: https://lnkd.in/ejwBUmk4

It's social enterprise day! One of our co-founders, Michael Brown speaks to Good Finance about the case for social investment... Go on Michael, you tell 'em.
It’s Social Enterprise Day!👏And we would like to start this post by highlighting new research from Social Enterprise UK Knowledge Centre: 📈 There are 131,000 social enterprises across the country, representing almost 1 in 42 of all UK businesses. 🌏 Social enterprises use their profits to help #PeopleandPlanet, with £1 billion reinvested to drive progress on their vital missions over the last financial year. ✨The sector is also a major employer, creating jobs for around 2.3 million people! Social enterprises are changing the world we live in by improving the lives of many. We would also like to spotlight, one specific social enterprise making a real difference in the fight against homelessness ➡️ Home Kitchen: The Social Impact Restaurant The team at Good Finance had the opportunity to visit their brand-new restaurant and talk with Michael Brown, Co-Founder, to learn more about their journey and social mission. Home Kitchen features two-time Michelin star winner Adam Simmonds as Executive Chef, and a leadership team drawn from the worlds of hospitality, catering, third sector and advertising. They not only serve the finest quality food but also provide employment for individuals who have experienced homelessness, offering the London Living Wage, travel support, and catering qualifications to help launch their careers. It supports individuals to rebuild their lives and break free from the cycle of homelessness. Today is a good day. Strike that... It's a great day... We have had the most glowing review in The Spectator courtesy of Tanya Gold. Here's an extract: "The food is faultless but warm-hearted: loving somehow. The roast lunch is perfectly balanced and pretty as day: unusually, it does not scream greed. The barley is vegetarian food as it is intended: doughty, fragrant and from the earth. The crumble is from God." "I cut into the beef. It is fine – soft and bloody, as it should be – but the knife is not sharp. Even as I process this impediment, the waitress silently places a steak knife at my elbow and I know then, as you do in the tiny moments, that this is a great restaurant. I hope there are queues outside this winter. In darkness, light a candle. Here is one." Read the whole thing here: https://lnkd.in/epKTRmiD
