About us
The IDEA-FAST project is a 5-year IMI2 project under Call H2020-JTI-IMI2-2018-15-two-stage – digital endpoints in neurodegenerative and immune-mediated diseases (total budget €42 Million) that starts in Februrary 2020, run by a consortium of 46 partners across 15 countries in Europe. It received funding from the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 Joint Undertaking under grant agreement No 853981. This Joint Undertaking receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and EFPIA. IDEA-FAST aims to identify digital endpoints that provide reliable, objective and sensitive evaluation of activities of daily life (ADL), disability and health related-quality of life (HRQoL) fort he following neurodegenrative diseases (NDD): Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Huntington’s Disease (HD) and the following IMID: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Primary Sjögren’s Syndrome (PSS), and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

🎉 We're so proud to announce that Emmi Antikainen, one of our brilliant early career researchers in IDEA-FAST, has successfully defended her PhD thesis. Emmi has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of data analysis in our project and you can read about her research in her paper "Assessing fatigue and sleep in chronic diseases using physiological signals from wearables: A pilot study” (https://lnkd.in/eAZPjJkh), a very important research piece on the IDEA-FAST Feasibility Study data. Emmi’s hard work and dedication have greatly contributed to our project, and we're excited to see what she does next. Please join us in congratulating Emmi on this fantastic achievement!
Excited to announce that on March 15, I successfully defended my doctoral thesis, “Time series analytics for decision support in chronic diseases.” The thesis delved into the requirements and limitations related to model and data driven clinical algorithms across different time spans. Monitoring data across various time spans can improve our understanding of chronic disease progression, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the burden on healthcare as these diseases become more common in our aging population. My research exploited advanced algorithms such as CNNs and transformers, analyzing data from radars, wearable sensors, and electronic health records. My heartfelt thanks to my opponent Prof. Tapio Seppänen, my pre-examiners, my supervisors Prof. Moncef Gabbouj and Prof. Mark van Gils, and all the co-authors I had the pleasure of working with! 📚 Check out my thesis at https://lnkd.in/dgSsYSPv
