It was a pleasure partnering with ITOPF and Gard AS on these events. Thank you to all the attendees for the enthusiastic engagement in the exercises.
In October we spent time in Japan visiting several maritime industry and government stakeholders, where we delivered workshops and seminars on responding to ship source pollution events. During our time there, we met with Gard AS in Imabari and Tokyo, alongside Navigate Response Ltd, to deliver a workshop to its members on pollution response and media management. Participants were given the task of mounting a response to a hypothetical spill of oil and microplastics at sea, against a backdrop of media scrutiny common to ship-source pollution events. This was followed by one day technical workshop with Japan P&I Club, during which we delivered a series of presentations followed by a desk-top exercise, which included the use of our Virtual and Mixed Reality apps to bring an extra level of interactivity and immersion to the event. While in Tokyo we also visited Britannia P&I Club, UK P&I Club, NorthStandard, NYK Line and Japan Coast Guard. Discussions during these meetings focused on ITOPF’s recent spill experience, as well as response to pollution incidents resulting from ships powered by alternative fuels – a topic which has garnered prominence in the industry as shipping heads towards decarbonisation. With thanks to all the stakeholders we met with for their hospitality and engagement during our time in Japan. #stakeholderengagment #pollutionresponse #mixedreality
