🌍 PPS Spotlight: Towards A Trauma-Informed Asylum Process and Services Dr Ingi Iusmen, Prof Jana Kreppner and India Cook’s report uncovers the barriers & trauma faced by young asylum seekers in the UK. This insightful video highlights the barriers to support, and social services, and the mental health impacts of navigating the asylum process. 🔑 Key Findings: • Barriers to Support: Young asylum seekers face cultural, language, and social obstacles that intensify their trauma and feelings of isolation. • Mental Health: The asylum process itself can exacerbate trauma, with long delays and uncertainty further affecting young people's mental well-being. • Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP) Guidelines: The report outlines TIP guidelines to improve the system, promote compassionate, gender—and culture-sensitive practices, and increase transparency in the asylum process. This research aims to make the asylum process more responsive and supportive of young people's needs by drawing on lived experiences and using participatory methods. The recommendations underscore the need for a more empathetic and trauma-informed approach to ensuring the well-being of vulnerable asylum seekers.
